  1. #linux

    A+!

  2. but thankfully there are parts of my #surfhosting tech stack which are fairly settled already:

    OS: #LinuxMint; #Debian (with #LXQt if needed, or #BunsenLabs); #OpenWRT

    Virtualization: #Proxmox

Hardware: refurb "1-liter" #1LPC business #miniPC from HP, Dell, Lenovo, with mid to high end CPU

    Network: #GLiNet and #FriendlyElec #NanoPi routers / network-attached devices; #PiVPN

Phone: #VoipMS with dedicated SIP phone, plus softphone apps for limited use

Power: 90% of everything powered from compact #GaN USB-PD power supplies; 24/7 gear backed by ~15 year old consumer UPSes with drop-in LFP 12V batteries

  3. I gotta say, apart from the broken stuff when venturing off the garden path with Armbian install/config scripts, I'm very impressed with the distro after installing it and spending a couple weeks pushing the NanoPi M4 to its limit.

it doesn't support LXQt as a desktop out of the box - meaning installing #LXQt isn't a curated option in the #Armbian install script - but just adding it as one would typically do on a bare Debian machine works fine, there are few to no obvious bugs, and the desktop is very snappy on the #Rockchip RK3399.

I will try to get a #NanoPi M6 eventually, as 4 GiB RAM is just not enough, but for now the M4 is doing very well in the role I have it in.

  4. I see that #FriendlyElec has come out with a successor to the NanoPi M4 called the NanoPi M6.

I saw the #NanoPi M6 when looking at the list of boards with platinum Armbian support.

I set up Armbian and installed #LXQt on the M4 yesterday, which is a substantially slower system than the M6, and it's pretty usable for basic low-complexity desktop stuff. Youtube in Chromium with UBlock Lite is pretty serviceable.

the fact it has Armbian platinum support is a selling point. less lock-in to FriendlyElec's custom Debian/Ubuntu releases. #miniPC

  5. everybytecounts.org OS #benchmarks updated for 2023.11 with #Spectrwm and #LXQt on Alpine #Linux, and LeftWM on NixOS becoming 1year old. They were not removed since they will be updated in the next #OS release next month. It would be great if the #Rustlang based #LeftWM was added to #AlpineLinux, but not had luck with requests. #Q4OS 5.4 23.11 was removed. If there's interest for 5.6 to be tested, a new issue can be submitted github.com/crftbt/EveryByteCou. Does Q4OS not have a public #code #repo?
