I’ve spent some time this weekend reinstalling my desktop with #CachyOS. Previously it used #bazzite, as it was mostly used for gaming, but I was also using it to run some heavier game servers and doing all of that in #distrobox was getting annoying. So far it’s been a nice experience, and I’m enjoying being able to mess stuff up again :blobmiou:

Yeah, back to Fedora and Gnome. As nice as Cachy and Niri and Noctalia are, I just work too much with other RHEL systems daily to make this workflow change right now. It’s been a week and I’ve had so little time to even get basic things setup that just work out of the box in Fedora/gnome and elementaryOS/pantheon.

Probably a really silly #Linux question but here goes 😅

I recently installed #CachyOS on my daughters aging laptop and it works like a charm, and she is delighted she can now play minecraft with her friends using shaders and large mod packs, which she couldn't before, so that's a win!

I now want to install it on my desktop PC. When we put it on my daughters laptop she only had a few things installed but I have a shit tonne of stuff on my desktop, which is now 5 years old (Ryzen 5 gaming build).

I want to be done with windows so a full install of Cachy, but this is the silly question - do I need to uninstall everything first or will the Cachy installation take care of this for me? I guess I want a clean fresh install with nothing sitting in the background.

This includes the time it took me to type a password.

Despite the distro's oddities, #CachyOS can handle emulating PS Vita games with 2x resolution just fine, unlike any other OS and #Linux distro.

Take note that this is running on a 2013 computer with a Core i5 CPU.

So I guess I have to finally actually do something about #Bazzite being on my computer. Which is too bad; It's worked really well.

Now I just need to figure out where to go from here. #PikaOS is a good option. Solid tooling, Debian Unstable base rolling, and a fun, kinda goofy but very helpful community.

#CachyOS is also nice, and the btrfs snapsots integrated into the system out of the box are even nicer. I'm super comfortable on Arch, but setting it up for gaming from scratch is more trouble than I wanna put in, so Cachy is a solid option.

Let's see, what else... Hardware support isn't an issue (carefully selected, AMD, etc.), so I guess anything. I need good gaming support, not based on #Fedora or #Ubuntu, and obviously #Windows can go fuck itself. #Mint is awesome but not in the cards (I bounce off of Cinnamon, sadly).

Any suggestions?

Haii, I can't really help on the first question though I personally haven't experienced any issues, but I can happily say that #CachyOS gets regular updates, sadly there's no official support for disabling systemd as #CachyOS is built around systemd.

Questions about #CachyOS #Linux:

• Do I have to configure something to prevent odd freezes? So far, I have set the CPU scheduler (scx_lavd) and enabled thermald.
• Does it keep getting constant updates? I know it's a rolling distro like any other, but this is different than my past experiences (actual Arch Linux and Void Linux).
• Is it possible to disable systemd? Not that I really want to, though.

Hace solo 2 meses que estoy utilizando CachyOS como distro principal. En 23 años nunca he sentido en tan poco tiempo este nivel de satisfacción, creo que la experiencia ayuda pero la distro es de lo mejor que he probado.
¿La recomiendo para recién llegados? ninguna rolling release lo es.
