New server, new #Introduction, I guess
I'm an #ActuallyAutistic #Queer person in #Edinburgh, #Scotland. I usually post about my interests or random thoughts in my head. I also often complain about technology around me. I also like to read about sustainability. Trying to keep my #HousePlants alive.

For games I usually play on my #NintendoSwitch (casual gamer - #MarioKart, #AnimalCrossing, #MarioParty, main series of #Mario, #Splatoon, #WarioGames, and more) and #BoardGames (a casual fan - I genuinely enjoy playing #Cluedo and #Munchkin. I also enjoy #Fluxx, #GiveMeTheBrain, #Scrabble, #TheSettlersOfCatan, Pandemic (that hashtag would be confusing), #ExplodingKittens, #Dixit, and more)
#TheHobbit is still my favourite book, but I also like #MissMarple, #Poirot, and #SherlockHolmes. #TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy series is great. So is #Discworld by #TerryPratchett. Enjoyed #EarthSea series.
I like to drink #Tea, especially #GreenTea. Enjoy animated shows like #Daria, #Amphibia, #TheOwlHouse, #ScoobyDoo, #GravityFalls, #BobsBurgers, #SpyXFamily, #InvaderZim, #DuckTales, #AvatarTheLastAirbender, old #TheSimpsons, #SpongeBob, and others

I'm seriously contemplating on buying a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T490 with 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.
The SSD space is quite small, but the port selection, build quality, great keyboard and an IPS panel coupled with 16GB in these trying times is just good of a deal to pass on when you can get it for less than 300€ (tax included).
I already have a M1 Macbook Air and a ~300€ Lenovo Chromebook Plus, but don't really have a Windows laptop right now.

Unlocked the hidden Advanced BIOS menu on my ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 (Intel) with just a USB stick: formatted it as raw FAT32 and wrote two magic bytes into its boot sector (0x7A @ offset 10, 0xF0 @ offset 21).
Booted with it plugged in, F1, then Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Advanced menu appeared.
Disabled Intel ME (confirmed: MEI PCI device gone, no /dev/mei0). -
As I switch what kind of dialysis I am going to be doing it has made me really rethink my "daily load out" and it has me swarming around the idea of getting ANOTHER #Thinkpad. Even though I will probably not go out as much lol :pepeClown:
Though jokes aside I do want to try and get out more and go to meetups in the area maybe. Going to try and go to a "Radio Enthusiast" meet up in a few weeks to see if it is something I am into. -

I also don't need it for traveling or notebook replacement. because for traveling I have a #lenovo #thinkpad #x260 that's a piece of tech.

Ich brauche mal Ideen bzgl dieses Problems: Auf meinem #Thinkpad T480 werden unter Debian Trixie beide Akkus (BAT0, BAT1) angezeigt, beide werden geladen, aber sobald BAT1, das ist der externe, 0% erreicht, wird der Rechner runtergefahren. Der andere, interne Akku wird zwar erkannt und mit 100% Ladung angezeigt, aber irgendwie ignoriert. Beide Akkus sind erst ca. ein Jahr alt und bis vor kurzem gab es dieses Verhalten auch noch nicht. Woran könnte das liegen?

I don't even bother playing new games anymore. I play Morrowind and Oblivion modded along with PS1, PS2, and other older system ROMs on my thinkpad.
500 GBs of a retro library that I'll never finish.
I'm not even going to go into the size of my anime and manga collection :asuka_smirk::asuka_smirk::asuka_smirk:

1. Wife's new part-time gig (financial advisor) means various Teams-based training sessions and I don't think either of us were ready for big slabs of her time to be suddenly swallowed up in ways not of our choosing. Hopefully this phase will pass.
2. ATM she's struggling on an #iPad with a bluetooth keyboard in a folio case thing, but a moderate laptop would definitely serve her much better than a glorified phone. Now looking at reconditioned #Thinkpad listings.
3. Her employer has made all kinds of dumb IT decisions. Just 1 example: they insist on using corporate Google mail (gmail with a domain), but their IT security policy won't allow the iOS and iPadOS apps to be used so she has to use it in a browser, and that browser has to be CHROME. My poor iPad...
This kind of thing makes my #autistic brain explode so I'm giving her perhaps less IT help than I could in theory, but honestly when companies don't do IT right (and there IS a right way to do it), I'm liable to #meltdown very quickly. -

I made a little doohickey so my #Thinkpad Yoga tablet would switch my lxde desktop to vertical wallpapers when I folded the screen back, and turn on the keyboard backlight when I type (and turn it off when I stopped):

One of the big drawbacks of buying a #Macbook instead of a #Thinkpad/#Framework laptop is that if a key breaks on your laptop you are kinda screwed or rather you are looking at a rather huge bill.
So this is the punishment for being too lazy to maintain #Linux and opting for #OSX.
At any rate now using an external keyboard and when that isn't practical #Karabiner to the rescue using the "fn" key as modifier to double up some still working keys.
