I just played through entire level in #DOOM with this input device and it was comfortable to play like that.

Just installed #OpenBSD on my #Thinkpad #X60 - a very old #32bit laptop. Works fine, still usable for everything except web browsing. OpenBSD has no #firefox or #Chromium in the official repos. For modern web browsing #Dillo or #Netsurf just can't handle the job. I use #suckless #surf web browser but it crashes very often :blobugh:

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon (5th gen) is back on FreeBSD 15, with X11 and Xfce4.
I tried using Plasma under Wayland for a while. Liked the modern look and the ability to zoom in and out with the touchpad (old eyes), but it seemed unresponsive now and then.

I use programs like #gimp, webdesign, #blender, videoediting #kdenlive (no cinema, but social media & peertube). My #thinkPad yoga 260 makes errors by video cutting in #shotcut bc is to weak i think
It should upgreadable, repairable & have free #bootloader. Last point why no #framework
Or is an old upgraded thinkpad for my case enough?

So I’m testing out #Ubuntu2604LTS on an intel #thinkpad T14 gen 4 and the standby battery life is atrocious. Went to bed around 10pm, closed the lid and when I woke up in the morning it was completely dead. Am I missing something. I thought newer kernels handled sleep and power settings better? This is borderline unusable.

I digged an old Thinkpad T410 out of my pile of Thinkpads and decided to take it to the arcade as a general use laptop for the days I don't have anything more modern on me and something needs tweaking.
This specific machine had only 6 gigs of RAM, so I tried something new here. Normally I do these light but up-to-date setups with Debian and XFCE or IceWM, but since I've put Alpine into quite a few Docker containers, I wanted to see how it fares as a full installation.
For someone who has used Linux in the days when X configuration was done by hand, setting it up wasn't that hard, but there was also plenty of manual tweaking to get this thing behave somewhat like a modern era laptop would. I put XFCE on it, changed the networking to run under NetworkManager and so forth. Been quite a while when I've set something up from as scratch as this, but it was also a nice walk down the memory lane.
Anyway, the Thinkpad works great, Wifi and all. The whole installation with all the junk I need takes 1.4 gigabytes of disk space and 480 megabytes of RAM with full DE running. Pretty!
Isn't this thing glorious? ThinkLight and all!

Recently we bought a used ThinkPad T530 for my partner, and I've put both Haiku and Linux Mint on it, dual booting with rEFInd. I'm quite happy with the result!
Also, while I do get some crashes in Haiku from time to time, it's way faster than Mint. 🍂

I just sold a ThinkPad T14 laptop with ChromeOS Flex installed to someone in my local area.
As much as I would have liked to get him a laptop with Linux, ChromeOS Flex was the right fit for him as he was already using a Chromebook and wanted the same experience but with faster hardware. His primary use was for work, not personal use.
He was able to login to his Google Account while we looked at it and confirmed that everything that he needed was working.
So I am glad that Chrome OS Flex exists. At this point, I think the limited experience of a Chromebook is a much better fit for a lot of people that Windows 11, which is plagued with performance, update and malware issues.
But kind of sad that both are BigTech.
If you had to choose, would you use Google's ChromeOS Flex or Microsoft's Windows 11 ?
Not a fair question, as we always have the option of Linux.

Getting a ThinkPad X13 (AMD Ryzen) ready for someone to look at. He is wanting a replacement for his Chromebook, but heard that I sold ThinkPad laptops.
I installed KDE desktop, then applied a ChromeOS theme. I think it looks okay, but really isn't much different than the default Breeze themes, though it does have an annoying (to me) Google logo that flashes on the screen between login and displaying the KDE desktop.
I installed both the Brave and Chromium browsers.
I may try other KDE themes, but all in all I think this would be a powerful replacement for a Chromebook.

Update on my arm journey:
Thinkpad T14s/gen6 Snapdragon Elite: Now using Ubuntu 26.04 Concept. Works pretty well outta the box w/ some limitations:
- Webcam not ok.
- TLP: No chargelimit possible yet
- Suspend and Hibernate don't work yet
- When returning from Powersave Mode it might be requred to switch consoles once to enforce a modeset to fix gfx bug.All other stuff works: WIFI, WWAN, OLED, BT.
Battery lasts for a full working day (Codium, Browser, Terminals)

@pallenberg Ubuntu 26.04 vom Concept ISO. Da sind gleich der x1e prepatched Kernel und ein paar Snapdragon tweaks bei. T14s ist relativ Arm-"friendly", weil die Firmwareblobs für Linux so verfügbar sind und nicht aus einer bestehenden Windows Partition extrahiert werden müssen. Battery life bei lowkey productivity work (Terminal, Browser) 8h. Habe mich sogar getraut, es für einen 4h Talk zu verwenden.
