  1. After learning touch typing, one of the best changes I made was swapping Caps Lock and Ctrl.
I barely use Caps Lock, but I use Ctrl all the time. Reaching down to the bottom-left corner for Ctrl is awkward and uncomfortable. Swapping them makes typing so much smoother. I highly recommend it.

Herkese tavsiye ederim.

  3. Has anyone made the switch from #KDE Plasma to #COSMIC?

I'm tempted to rebase my #Fedora #Kinoite to #COSMIC Atomic now that COSMIC Files has scripting support: github.com/pop-os/cosmic-files

Things I discovered in a VM that I would be missing out on:
    - inhibiting screen blanking
    - wallpaper of the day

    Things I'd gain:
    - automatic tiling
    - a simpler, less cluttered desktop

    Things I'm concerned about:
    - stylus support

Has anyone made the switch and is (un)satisfied with it?

  10. Tried the #COSMICdesktop in Fedora 44. Nice little desktop and the window tiling being easy to turn on and off is great.

I got slightly confuddled when the terminal window and text editor window merged into a combined group. That was cool, also potential for lots of typing in the wrong app 😄

Text editor stopped responding when trying to exit, it was the last app in the merged window group.

Missing a UI similar to NetworkManager in GNOME for creating an OpenVPN connection was disappointing. Nice to see a Wireguard option.

Overall I think it's shaping up really nicely, still needs more features to make it functional for my work laptop. It's largely stability issues, some additional system settings options.

  18. I've been using #Cosmicdesktop again on EndeavourOS and what I've liked the most is the improvement in performance which doesn't trigger high ram or cpu consumption when I'm using firefox with multiple tabs, live streams and videos with easyeffects enabled... :linux:👍 and that's a great point in their favor. #Linux

  20. #linux #pop_os #COSMICDesktop is breaking me. You can't even hold control to drag and drop copy files in their file browser. This needs more time in the oven sorry. It's definitely snappy! But I guess that's not hard when you rip out so much functionality

  25. Wayland is pretty quick on @system76 's Cosmic desktop. Faster. I did lose a bunch of xdotool custom keyboard shortcuts, but wtype works fine as a substitute. If you update, screenshot and save your shortcuts first, so you can rebuild 'em.

  26. Gaddamn this wifi drop-off/disconnection in latest cosmic desktop is REALLY annoying. It just cuts off so randomly. Or maybe a recent linux kernel version broke network manager somehow?

  27. How are folks feeling about #COSMICdesktop? I’m honestly split. It’s way snappier than Gnome was and less buggy/unexpected behavior. But it also feels like it’s not “done” yet iykwim. Lots of having to click twice and stuff like that

  28. @system76 I need to check if there are open bugs, but for me (on arch) cosmic (randomdly) do not pairs bluetooth devices at the session login.

    Anyways great work guys !

I also see that u mentioned NixOS in ur profile. So wondering, whether cosmic can be managed declaratively like hyprland etc in NixOS/home manager using a module? 🤔

Or for now it's just manually customized?

    aerynos.com/blog/2025/12/09/no

It's been a busy period for the AerynOS team with updates across the board including a number of "back end" changes as well.

We have implemented a new server, changed to Zulip for our instant messaging platform and changed our email provider all whilst continuing to land package updates including KDE Plasma 6.5.4 and Cosmic Beta 9. We have fixed a number of bugs and started landing new features.

Next up is our Versioned Repositories work which will enable big changes to our capabilities in 2026!

As ever, if you want to engage with the project please join us on Zulip:

  37. I gotta say, #cosmicdesktop gets many things right even in its alpha state. Using it right now. X11 apps and Electron garbage all work fine with fractional scaling. Can't say that about #gnome49. Oh, and quarter tiling by default! Optimistic for what the future brings for it.

Intel has been a major contributor to open source projects over the years, but the thing about open source software is that anybody can use it – including the company’s competitors. Now Intel says it plans to be more strategic about how it contributes to open source projects moving forward as part of an effort to make sure that it’s benefiting more than its competitors.

  44. Looking at this old thing (without reading, sorry), I know part of what I wanted to discuss with anyone is ... how does one go about matching the #Kvantum style w/ what i see for the #COSMICDesktop default styles, as shown?

Or, do we simply go against recommending the isntallation of Kvantum dempendent software?

NOTE: i've only recently come to know of Kvantum (i think), so... i can't say its super important.
