Arreglando actualización de KDE Neon a Plasma 6.7.0 - sddm

Recientemente mi computadora personal con KDE Neon tuvo una actualización grande y "se rompió". Llevaba 21 días sin reiniciarla o apagarla, así que después de una última apt-get update y apt-get upgrade, la reinicié. Al volver el sistema, me encontré con el familiar login de la línea de comando, y no anda el servidor gráfico.

"I spent the afternoon playing games in Steam on Linux and everything worked perfectly" was a much more impressive statement before the Steam Deck came along, but I am still amazed and just how well things have progressed.

All but one game I tried worked without any changes, one I had to nudge to use Proton Experimental. Graphics quality was great, too, but I wasn't playing anything that drove it too hard. Just a few things like Balatro, Peglin, and Wingspan.

Up and running with KDE Neon on my main laptop. No more Windows 11, finally. Though it's just the basics at the moment, the rest shouldn't take long. Having multiple very accessible backups has helped speed along the process. Helps that nearly all the software I use daily is already FOSS or at least cross-platform.

Most things are good on this hardware, even multiple monitors. Audio is weak but I have leads on fixes.

ich habe hier ein spezifisches Problem, welches zwar provisorisch gelöst wurde, aber die Ursache ist noch nicht behoben:
Beim KDE Update auf 6.6.0 (und 6.6.1 hat das Problem natürlich nicht behoben) hat der neue Kernel einen Kernel Panic Screen ausgelöst und ich musste umständlich über das Advanced Menü den vorherigen Kernel booten. Provisorisch gelöst jetzt mit Grub, der sich den nun älteren gebooteten Kernel merkt. Aber was ist die Ursache des Problems?
Ich konnte nur beim oberflächlichen Suchen auf der Ubuntu Forum Seite finden, dass das angeblich eine Inkompatibilität von Virtualbox und VMWare wäre. Weiß da jemand mehr drüber und wenn ja, wie löst man das Problem?

Y ni 24 horas después del lanzamiento de la nueva versión de Plasma, KDE Neon ya la tiene disponible. Una vez más, aparte de lo bien que funciona esta distribución Gnu/Linux, me sorprende la rapidez con la que actualiza todo lo relacionado, con el software de KDE.

Una vez más, gracias a los responsables de mantener este sistema operativo libre y a pesar de su incierto futuro, esperemos que aún le queden muchos años por delante.

So, I worked with Claude to scratch my itch. Seems to have worked great for me and my personal brew system.

years ago, i fell in love with #kde . it was a painful, toxic relationship, with baloo always crashing, k-workers making noise but not working, frequent reboots and freezing on his side. At some point I had to walk away mate.

Then about one or two years ago we met again. "you, still alive?!" i gasped excitedly. sparks flew and since then, things are really really good between the two of us. :D

No se que futuro le esperará a KDE Neon pero, tras las recientes actualizaciones con Digikam 8.8 y Plasma 6.5 y el buen rato que ha estado mi ordenador aplicándolas, no puedo si no más que felicitar al equipo de esta distribución de Gnu/Linux, por el gran trabajo que siguen realizando y su rapidez, en ofrecernos lo último del ecosistema de KDE.

Wer weiß, ob man für ein einzelnes Programm die Updates aussetzen kann?
Konkret geht es um LibreOffice, da möchte ich gerne (aus diversen Gründen) die frühere Version behalten, die sich grade auf meinem Laptop befindet. Blöderweise aktualisiert sich das Teil meist mit den Package Updates der Distro. Gefunden habe ich schon in nem Debian Forum, dass man Pakete auf Hold setzen kann, aber LibreOffice besteht aus vielen Einzel-Paketen. Müsste dann wohl alle einzeln auf Hold setzen...??
Gibt es da nichts praktischeres? 🤔🤔

Gestern abend war mal wieder "Technik die begeistert" Moment... Nicht begeistert. Ubuntu hat (ob er heute morgen immer noch besteht, weiß ich erst wenn ich es nochmal versucht habe) einen Serverausfall, über den einen Teil der Updates von KDE Neon laufen, weil das ja Ubuntu-Unterbau ist. Erst mal die Bug-Reports lesen müssen, um das rauszufinden. Warum kann man bei einem so gravierenden Problem nicht eine zentrale News dazu raushauen? 😤🫤
Dazu zusätzlich hatte die Telekom gestern auch ein Internetproblem hier in meiner Region.
Ich habe gestern mal wieder fluchend vor meinem Laptop gesessen, bis ich raus gefunden hatte, dass nicht meine Geräte an dem Chaos schuld sind... Mmpf.

Nachtrag: Eben versucht, das Update ist immer noch nicht möglich, weil der Ubuntu-Server immer noch nicht erreichbar ist. Na toll. Naja, dann halt heute nicht mehr. Werd da mal in ein paar Tagen rein schauen. 🤷‍♀️

Upgraded some #KDENeon system packages last night before heading off to bed. This morning, my desktop can't maintain a connection to my router. Wound up having to assign it a static IP and manually configure a route to the firewall. Between this kind of shit and issues with resuming from sleep, I've about had it.

I'm not going to do anything as brazen as use Nix on this machine, but I think I may give another major distro's KDE a try (e.g. Fedora) or go stock Ubuntu and manually kick it over to KDE. We'll see how much patience I have in the moment of anger. Heh.

Zu #KDENeon, das OS hat sich generell easy aufspielen lassen. Keine Probleme damit.
Was ein Problem ist: #Wayland und die Look and Feel #Einstellungen. In Wayland lassen sich insgesamt die verschiedenen #Themes zu #Icons usw viel schlechter im #Store finden und einstellen, manche Features sind, wie im letzten Posting schon geschrieben, in #Plasma6 einfach nicht mehr da. Mein Vorgehen ist jetzt, erstmal alles in #X11 zu installieren, was ich so brauche an Programmen und suchen, welche #Features überhaupt noch da sind, die evtl ähnlich sind zu dem, was ich in #Plasma5 hatte. Wenn alles da ist, switche ich am Ende mal in Wayland und guck mir an, was dann alles nicht läuft. Finde, dass #KDE den Fokus auf Wayland legt, verfrüht, da ich jetzt, mit einem neuen Laptop, merke, dass einiges nicht am alten Laptop lag, sondern einfach daran, dass Wayland immer noch nicht so weit ist, dass es die gleiche optische Funktionalität bietet wie X11.

Ein weiterer großer Arbeitspunkt ist die #VM für das #Windows OS. Da sind wir gestern schon das erste Mal gescheitert. VM installieren alleine ging easy, aber darin dann das Windows OS zum laufen zu bringen, war das erste Mal ein pain in the ass.

Zu #KDENeon, das OS hat sich generell easy aufspielen lassen. Keine Probleme damit.
Was ein Problem ist: #Wayland und die Look and Feel #Einstellungen. In Wayland lassen sich insgesamt die verschiedenen #Themes zu #Icons usw viel schlechter im #Store finden und einstellen, manche Features sind, wie im letzten Posting schon geschrieben, in #Plasma6 einfach nicht mehr da. Mein Vorgehen ist jetzt, erstmal alles in #X11 zu installieren, was ich so brauche an Programmen und suchen, welche #Features überhaupt noch da sind, die evtl ähnlich sind zu dem, was ich in #Plasma5 hatte. Wenn alles da ist, switche ich am Ende mal in Wayland und guck mir an, was dann alles nicht läuft.
