  1. KDE Linux potrebbe presto cambiare il modo in cui viene costruita la propria base software. Il progetto BuildStream è vicino a un importante punto decisionale. #KDE #Linux #KDELinux #BuildStream #OpenSource linuxeasy.org/kde-linux-valuta

  2. So, Mailove, the fast, friendly KDE-first email client (that works everywhere via AppImage) is not the most loved. But is is definitely the most downloaded project of mine.

  3. Regarding KDE Linux :

You either use Nix or are doomed to re-invent it.

    From BuildStream readme:

Defining software stacks in a declarative format

    Why not just Nix? :nixos:

I don't get why KDE Linux is build on top of BuildStream.

  5. The big difference with KDE Linux is that it is a true immutable Linux distribution. Unlike immutable atomic distributions such as Fedora Atomic spins where you can technically layer packages and cheat the immutable system KDE Linux is truly locked down. Your software choices are limited to Flatpak apps Distrobox containers Podman or Docker containers and virtual machines.

People see this as a massive advantage because it guarantees absolute system stability. The base operating system is read-only so updates happen atomically and if an update fails the system instantly rolls back to the previous known good image state upon reboot instead of breaking. You never have to worry about dependency hell either since applications bring their own required dependencies bundled safely inside their own sandboxes.

Security is another huge win because a locked down host means malware cannot permanently alter system binaries or plant backdoors in core directories. Even if an app is compromised the damage is strictly restricted to its isolated container or sandbox environment.

For developers tools like Distrobox provide incredible agility making it easy to spin up multiple isolated container environments effortlessly while seamlessly integrating GUI apps and terminal commands into the desktop. A developer can maintain a pristine untouched host system while running completely separate disposable development workspaces inside Podman or Docker without any friction.

Ultimately the computer behaves like a predictable appliance where your core operating system stays pristine and immutable no matter how much you tinker. It eliminates configuration drift so troubleshooting becomes vastly simpler because everyone shares the exact same base state while user files and configurations live safely in isolated home directories completely separate from the operating system.
