#Fedora builds its flatpaks from fedora sources. So if flatpaks must be built in the EU, this is a good starting point. In fact, why don't you start already? 🙂 / RR

#EU_OS proposes to equip public sector computers with #KDE and distribute software also via #Flatpak. So this is grant and development priority is very much welcomed!

During the #UN #opensourceweek in June 2025 in their New York HQ, Adriana Groh from the @sovtechfund talked about open digital infrastructure and digital sovereignty 🇺🇳 . @rriemann , who attended for #EU_OS, was in the crowd – and coded meanwhile on #EU_OS. 🚀 The s̶k̶y̶ UN is the limit for our collaboration: why not also #UN_OS? Robert had the chance to exchange contacts with the digital transformation officer there.

Day 2 of #hackdays2025: #EU_OS has now a new Proof-of-Concept section on the website (work in progress). The team enrolled some #bootc machines in #Foreman. The results so far were pitched to a selection board. Thanks to the great team who made this all possible! 🙏
Unfortunately, #EU_OS has not been selected to proceed to the next stage.

Day 1 of #hackdays2025: #EU_OS has started with possibly the biggest team of 14 people from several countries. To build the proof of concept, the team works on several sub tasks:
- building the EU OS image
- setting up full-disk encryption
- setting up FIDO2 hardware key to unlock encryption
- fleet management with #Foreman
- user management with #FreeIPA (if time is left)1/2

3 days until #EU_OS at Paris #HackDays: How many hours do you use your #Windows office computer per day? For 6h in front of the computer, this makes 6h·20d·11=1320h per year: Time that users spent in an ecosystem entirely controlled by few powerful, rich people in other countries.
And more and more, #Windows wants to increase this control and extract value for its shareholders. Change of license models to extract annual rents, forced upgrades to #Windows11, etc. 1/2

5 days until #EU_OS at Paris #HackDays: The architecture for EU OS must permit a migration phase in which both #Microsoft #Windows and EU OS run in parallel (hybrid setup). This way, organisations can do tests with only few of their staff (e.g. developers/engineers) while keeping everything as is for e.g. HR/business-critical functions. In principle, staffers may also have a Windows and an EU OS laptop at the same time. 1/2

6 days until #EU_OS at Paris #HackDays: EU OS is a so-called atomic operating system that offers interruption free software updates thanks to #bootc (bootable container) technology. While people work, bootc downloads and installs unnoticeable to the user the update. After the next computer restart (trigged by the user), EU OS switches to the new version. If something breaks, the user can roll back. 1/2

#EU_OS looks out for potential early adopters in the public sector to inform the design of the proof of concept.
Many current Linux on the Desktop deployments are in the education sector: schools and universities.
