L’entretien

🎩✨ Ah, the riveting world of #ABI stability—a topic so thrilling it could make paint drying seem like an action movie. The author boldly contradicts a popular opinion, as if to say, "Look, Ma, no hands!" 🙄 Meanwhile, #Jason #Turner is left nodding knowingly, probably while sipping tea and wondering why he bothers at all. 🍵🤦♂️

"Have a look. Whichever one you want, I'll buy it for you."
"£2000! That's too expensive. What about this £400 one over here?"
Mother told us to go to one of the more expensive shops in the area, then complained about the price.
The one she suggested would likely break within a year, whereas the one we chose had a 10 year guarantee.

“For peace activists across NATO countries, those contradictions only reinforce what they have argued for decades: Europe needs a new security architecture based on diplomacy, arms control, common security, and cooperation, while the United States needs a foreign policy that relies on diplomacy rather than militarism. For them, the ultimate lesson is clear: the time has come to dissolve NATO and replace it with a security system that reduces tensions instead of fueling arms races and preparing for endless war”

Banker, or: Bolshevik
The myth persists: banker, Bolshevik; rootless wanderer, colonizer; coward, conqueror; parasite, puppet master; outsider, insider; too separate, too integrated. Each age selects its favorite charge, then pins it to the same old sleeve. Contradictions matter less than finding someone to blame when fears arise.
d’Verse Quadrille
The above poem is my take on d’Verse’s Quadrille challenge.
The Quadrille is simply a poem of 44 words (excluding the title), and it can take any form. This week’s challenge was to use the word “myth” in a Quadrille.
Let’s write poetry together!
When it comes to partnership, some humans can make their lives alone – it’s possible. But creatively, it’s more like painting: you can’t just use the same colours in every painting. It’s just not an option. You can’t take the same photograph every time and live with art forms with no differences.
–Ben Harper (b. 1969)
Would you like to create poetry with me and have a completed poem of yours featured here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish? I am very excited to have launched the ‘Poetry Partners’ initiative and am looking forward to meeting and creating with you… Check it out!

The contradiction I face most often as a #Marxist is that knowledge in the imperial core has been replaced in part by #propaganda. This #contradiction heightens as people start to see it in other places than politics, eg #AI.
There are books on this: inventing reality by the late Michael Parenti, rest in power, who paid the pipers of western Marxism by Rockhill or western Marxism by losurdo.
Its almost a pawlowian reflex that weaponizes the subconscious to fight progress.
How to deprogram?
With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think to-day in words as hard as cannon-balls and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day.

Saw on FB yesterday that there appear to be quite a number of people apparently from the US and Australia whose empathy extends to #Palestine but not #HongKong or #Ukraine. I'm on a #Lemmy instance where the dominant voices, by a wide margin, praise #russia, #china, and #NorthKorea at every turn, including minimizing or denying the totalitarianism, brutality, and human rights violations of those regimes... while still somehow insisting that Israel is committing war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
I have thoughts, obviously.
The ultimate paradox: $6.25B funds "Trump Accounts," but the administration's own trade/immigration policies (tariffs, H-1B fees) could crash the US stock index those accounts invest in. Sabotage or strategy? 📉

But you were so utterly devoid of sense, that throughout the whole of your speech you were disputing with yourself, saying things which not only were inconsistent with each other, but involved direct contradiction and opposition, so that the contest was not so much between you and me as between Antonius and Antonius.

"Leadership in 2025: Mastering the contradiction between knowing what's essential and eliminating it." - Futurist Jim Carroll
If anything is real in 2025, it is the fact that organizations have mastered the art of saying one thing and doing another - often with a pretty negative intent.
No wonder people are jaded, confused, wound up, and upset.
Think about it. Organizations worldwide face an existential contradiction: the very investments needed to survive the future are being slashed to survive the present. The goals they set to live up to some pretty vast challenges have been torn asunder or set aside.
And the fact is, this "say-do gap" is everywhere. (That's the gap between what they 'say' they will do, and what they actually 'do.') I used Claude.AI and Google Gemini to do a deep research analysis of what's going on, and both came back with some pretty intense reading. I then used Gamma. App to summarize this into two slide decks - one generic, and one specific.
The first, "The 2025 Paradox Report: 50 Contradictions Between Corporate Rhetoric and Reality", will give you a pretty quick idea of the nature of the gap.
To give just one example from that document:
"Organizations publicly declare workforce development as essential while simultaneously gutting the very programs and people needed to build future capabilities, creating a widening gap between skills rhetoric and investment reality."
I easily came up with 50 such contradictions. Give it a read - it's pretty stark.
The second one gets a little more specific - The Preparedness Paradox: How Organizations Are Cutting the Very Investments They Need to Survive the Future is an even more sobering read.
This one gets into actual corporate stories and observations., I ran the PDF through multiple AI systems for a fact check, and it's pretty spot on.
Consider the major contradiction between the escalating cybersecurity crisis and the slowing budget growth.
The number of breached accounts increased eightfold to 5.5 billion.
The average cost of a data breach rose by 10% to $4.88 million, reaching an all-time high of $9.36 million in the U.S.
The healthcare sector alone saw 276.7 million records exposed.
Despite these worsening threats, the growth of security budgets slowed to only 8% in 2024.
Say-do!
Read the list of 50 contradictions. It's pretty depressing.
---
Futurist Jim Carroll believes we are living through the era of 'shallow leadership' - a time when many organizations have lost the very essence of any type of corporate social responsibility. The extent of the damage will be evident in the years to come.
