How to Enjoy Practicing Again
Every musician experiences seasons when practice feels exciting—and seasons when it feels like a chore. Losing motivation doesn’t mean you’ve lost your passion. More often, it means your routine needs a fresh approach.
As a music instructor and mentor, I’ve seen students rediscover their love for music after making a few intentional changes. The goal isn’t simply to practice more—it’s to practice in a way that keeps you engaged, challenged, and inspired.
Here are a few practical ways to make practice enjoyable again.
- Remember Why You Started
Think back to what first inspired you to learn music. Was it a song that moved you, a musician you admired, or the joy of making music?
Reconnecting with your purpose can reignite your passion.
2. Set Small, Achievable Goals
Trying to master everything at once can become overwhelming.
Instead, focus on one objective at a time: learn a new chord progression, master a difficult passage, improve your rhythm, memorize one verse of a song.
Small victories build momentum and keep you motivated.
3. Add Variety to Your Practice
Avoid doing the same routine every day.
Mix your sessions by including: technique exercises, ear training, sight-reading, improvisation, learning a favourite song, playing or singing with backing tracks or other musicians.
Variety keeps practice fresh and enjoyable.
4. Celebrate Progress
Don’t focus only on how far you still have to go. Take time to appreciate how much you’ve already improved.
Record yourself occasionally and compare your progress over time. Growth is often easier to hear when you look back.
5. Practice with Others
Music is meant to be shared. Join a choir, play or sing in a band, rehearse with friends, or participate in group lessons. Making music with others often renews enthusiasm and builds confidence.
6. Create a Consistent Routine
You don’t need to practice for hours every day.
Even 20–30 minutes of focused practice can produce remarkable progress when done consistently. A sustainable routine is far more effective than occasional marathon sessions.
7. Be Patient with Yourself
Some days will feel productive, while others may not. That’s part of learning.
Don’t let one difficult practice session discourage you. Progress is measured over weeks and months, not by a single day.
Conclusion
The joy of music isn’t found only in reaching your goals—it’s found in the journey of becoming better with every practice session.
When you practice with purpose, curiosity, and consistency, the routine becomes more than an obligation. It becomes an opportunity to grow, create, and discover new possibilities.
Fall in love with the process, and the results will follow.
Reflection
What one change could you make this week that would make your practice sessions more enjoyable and more meaningful?

I feel like I have achieved something not when people learn from me. Coz Learning is easy & accessible with internet etc and that's not the important part.
But the greater satisfaction and achievement personally is when I made some people curious about something. IMO it's much more valuable than other stuffs as curiosity is the solid foundation for any innovation, solution etc etc.
🧵

People who are curious will find answers for things which other's might not and have overlooked. It's the fundamental driving force of humanity.
I'm more than happy when a non-technical person who doesn't even know how to code or even know how software works etc told me this (pic attached)
More than happy to welcome any of you people who wants to learn Nix but not sure where to get started.
Let's make computing fun again😁

What Makes a Great Choir?
A great choir is not simply a group of talented singers. It is a team of people who are united by a shared purpose, committed to excellence, and willing to serve one another through music.
As a choir director and music instructor, I’ve learned that the choirs that leave the greatest impact are not always the ones with the strongest individual voices. More often, they are the ones that sing with unity, discipline, humility, and passion.
Here are some qualities that distinguish a great choir.
- Unity Above Individuality
In a choir, every voice matters, but no single voice should overpower the others. Great choirs understand that harmony is created when each singer contributes their part while supporting the whole ensemble.
The goal is not to be heard alone but to create a beautiful sound together.
2. Consistent Preparation
Excellent performances are the result of excellent rehearsals.
Great choirs arrive on time, learn their parts before rehearsals, practice consistently, and come prepared to contribute. They understand that discipline behind the scenes produces confidence on the platform.
3. A Teachable Spirit
No choir grows without correction.
Great singers welcome feedback because they understand that every correction is an opportunity to improve. Humility creates room for growth, while a teachable attitude strengthens the entire team.
4. Effective Listening
Choir singing is as much about listening as it is about singing.
Great choristers listen carefully to the conductor, blend with surrounding voices, maintain balance, and adjust their volume and tone when necessary. Listening creates unity, and unity creates excellence.
5. Character and Professionalism
Talent may open doors, but character keeps them open.
Respect for leaders, punctuality, commitment, positive attitude, and reliability are qualities that strengthen every choir. The way you conduct yourself during rehearsals is just as important as the way you perform on stage.
6. Understanding the Message
A choir does more than sing notes—it communicates a message.
Whether performing a concert piece or leading worship, great choirs understand the meaning of the lyrics and sing with sincerity, conviction, and expression. When the singers believe the message, the audience is more likely to connect with it.
7. A Heart for Continuous Growth
Great choirs never stop learning.
They invest in vocal training, musicianship, sight-reading, ear training, stage presence, and teamwork. They celebrate progress while continually striving for higher standards.
Excellence is not a destination; it is a continuous pursuit.
Conclusion
The strength of a choir is not measured by the number of voices it has, but by the unity, discipline, and purpose those voices share.
When singers listen to one another, respect one another, prepare diligently, and pursue excellence together, they create more than beautiful music—they create unforgettable experiences that inspire and uplift others.
A great choir is built one rehearsal, one relationship, and one shared commitment at a time.
Reflection
If every member of your choir approached rehearsals with the same level of commitment as you, what kind of choir would it become?
“A great choir is not defined by powerful voices alone, but by hearts that beat together, ears that listen carefully, and people who choose unity over individuality.” — Victor Adenola

Learning Faster with Daily Practice
Many musicians believe that making rapid progress requires practicing for several hours every day. While long practice sessions have their place, they are not the secret to consistent improvement. In my experience as a music instructor and mentor, the musicians who progress the fastest are often those who practice consistently, not necessarily the longest.
Daily practice builds momentum. It strengthens muscle memory, improves concentration, and helps musical concepts become second nature. Just as a language is learned through regular use, music is mastered through regular engagement.
The key is not to ask, “How long should I practice?” but rather, “How well am I using the time I have?”
- Consistency Outperforms Intensity
Practicing for 30 focused minutes every day is often more effective than practicing for three hours once a week.
Frequent practice helps your mind and body retain what you’ve learned, making each session a continuation of the previous one rather than a fresh start.
Small, consistent efforts produce remarkable long-term results.
2. Practice with a Clear Purpose
Avoid practicing without direction.
Before you begin, identify one or two goals for the session:
- Improve a difficult passage.
- Strengthen your rhythm.
- Refine your tone.
- Memorize a section of music.
- Improve sight-reading or ear training.
Purposeful practice leads to measurable progress.
3. Focus on Quality, Not Quantity
Practicing while distracted or repeating mistakes without correction can slow your progress.
Stay fully engaged during your practice session. Play slowly when necessary, pay attention to details, and stop to correct errors before repeating them.
Deliberate practice always beats careless repetition.
4. Build a Balanced Practice Routine
An effective daily session should include:
- Warm-ups
- Technical exercises
- Repertoire or songs
- Sight-reading
- Ear training
- Music theory or musicianship
- A few minutes of enjoyable playing or singing
A balanced routine develops complete musicianship.
5. Review Before Learning Something New
Growth doesn’t come from constantly adding new material. It also comes from strengthening what you’ve already learned.
Spend a few minutes reviewing previous lessons before moving on to new ones. This reinforces confidence and improves retention.
6. Track Your Progress
Keep a simple practice journal.
Record what you practiced, what improved, and what still needs attention. Looking back over weeks and months will remind you how far you’ve come and keep you motivated.
Progress becomes more encouraging when you can see it.
7. Be Patient with the Process
Every musician experiences days when improvement feels slow.
Don’t mistake slow progress for no progress. Skills are often developing beneath the surface before they become noticeable. Stay committed, trust the process, and allow time to work in your favour.
Excellence is built one practice session at a time.
Conclusion
There is no shortcut to becoming a skilled musician, but there is a proven path: consistent, intentional practice.
Every scale you play or sing, every exercise you complete, every correction you apply, and every challenge you overcome brings you one step closer to your goals.
You don’t have to be perfect every day—you simply need to keep showing up.
Your future as a musician is shaped less by occasional bursts of effort and more by the habits you faithfully repeat.
Reflection
If you committed to just 30 minutes of focused practice every day for the next three months, how different would your musicianship become?
“Great musicians are not built by occasional inspiration, but by daily dedication. Every practice session is an investment in the musician you are becoming.” — Victor Adenola

The Courage to Start Again
Every musician encounters moments that test their passion. A disappointing performance, a missed opportunity, a long break from practice, or unexpected life challenges can make it feel as though the journey has come to an end.
But every ending carries the possibility of a new beginning.
Starting again is not a sign of weakness—it is a mark of resilience. It takes courage to return after disappointment, to pick up your instrument after months away, or to believe in your potential after setbacks.
Growth is rarely a straight line. There are seasons of progress, seasons of pause, and seasons of rediscovery. What matters most is not how many times you stumble, but your willingness to rise and continue.
Don’t allow yesterday’s disappointments to define tomorrow’s possibilities. The experience you’ve gained, the lessons you’ve learned, and the strength you’ve developed have prepared you to move forward with greater wisdom and confidence.
Whether you’re returning to music after a break, rebuilding your confidence, or pursuing a dream you once set aside, remember that every fresh start is an opportunity to write a better chapter.
Your journey is far from over.
The decision to begin again may become the turning point that leads to your greatest growth.
Reflection
What dream, passion, or goal is waiting for you to give it another chance?
“Starting again doesn’t erase your past; it builds on it. Every new beginning is another opportunity to become who you were created to be.” — Victor Adenola

How Parents Can Support Musical Dreams
One of the greatest influences on a child’s musical journey isn’t the instrument they play—it’s the support they receive at home.
As a music instructor and mentor, I’ve had the privilege of working with many young learners. One pattern has become very clear: children thrive when their parents are actively involved in their growth. In many cases, the difference isn’t talent—it’s encouragement.
Parents don’t need to be musicians to raise confident young musicians. They simply need to create an environment where learning is valued and dreams are nurtured.
Here are five practical ways parents can make a lasting difference:
- Encourage Progress, Not Perfection:
Celebrate your child’s effort as much as their achievements. A word of encouragement after a practice session can build confidence and inspire them to keep improving.
2. Make Practice a Healthy Routine:
Consistency matters more than long hours. Helping your child develop a regular practice habit teaches discipline, responsibility, and commitment—qualities that extend beyond music.
3. Show Interest in Their Journey:
Ask them what they learned in class. Listen as they play. Attend their recitals and performances whenever possible. Your presence tells them that their growth matters.
4. Be Patient During the Learning Process:
Every child learns at a different pace. Some progress quickly, while others need more time. Avoid unnecessary comparisons and allow your child to develop with confidence.
5. Partner with the Music Instructor:
The best results come when parents and teachers work together. Open communication, shared expectations, and consistent support create an environment where children can flourish.
Over the years, I’ve watched young learners overcome fear, build confidence, and discover abilities they never knew they had. Behind many of those success stories were parents who believed in their children, encouraged them through challenges, and celebrated every milestone along the way.
A parent’s support does more than produce better musicians—it helps raise confident, disciplined, and resilient young people who are prepared for life.
Reflection
What is one simple way you can encourage a young person’s musical journey this week?

I’m currently brainstorming the basis of how I want to build a community of enthusiast photographers. From the tool to be used, to the mission and vision. I have an idea, I hope it can be a shared one.
I don’t want another social. Just a space to grow and have fun. Together.

Raising Confident Young Musician
As a music instructor and mentor, one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that teaching music is about much more than helping children play the right notes. It’s about helping them believe in themselves.
Over the years, I’ve watched shy children gradually become confident performers. I’ve seen learners who were afraid to play a single note eventually stand before an audience with confidence. Those transformations didn’t happen because they suddenly became more talented. They happened because someone believed in them long enough for them to believe in themselves.
Confidence is not built through constant praise—it is built through consistent progress, encouragement, and meaningful opportunities to succeed.
Here are a few principles that have made a lasting difference in my teaching:
- Celebrate Progress, Not Just Performance:
Children grow when their effort is recognized, not only when they perform perfectly. A simple word of encouragement after a small improvement often motivates them to keep going.
2. Create a Safe Place to Learn:
Every young musician deserves an environment where mistakes are treated as part of learning, not as reasons for embarrassment. Confidence grows when children know they are free to learn without fear.
3. Give Them Opportunities to Perform:
Whether it’s playing for family members, classmates, or at a student recital, every performance helps build courage. Confidence grows through experience, not by waiting until everything is perfect.
4. Teach Character Alongside Music:
Punctuality, discipline, patience, teamwork, and respect are just as valuable as musical skills. These qualities prepare children not only for the stage but also for life.
5. Believe in Them Before They Believe in Themselves:
Some of the most confident musicians I have mentored began with very little confidence. Sometimes, all a child needs is a teacher, mentor, or parent who sees potential before they can see it themselves.
Music has a unique way of shaping young lives. Beyond developing technical skills, it nurtures confidence, resilience, creativity, and leadership. That is why every lesson matters. Every encouraging word matters. Every opportunity to learn matters.
As instructors, parents, and mentors, our greatest achievement is not simply raising skilled musicians—it is raising confident young people who are prepared to make a positive impact wherever life takes them.
Reflection
Who helped build your confidence when you were learning something new, and how can you become that person for someone else?
“The greatest gift we can give our children is not just the ability to perform, but the confidence to believe in what they are capable of becoming.” — Victor Adenola

The Courage to Start
Every accomplished musician was once a beginner.
Before the applause, the confidence, and the polished performances came the first lesson, the first mistake, and the first attempt. Every journey toward excellence starts with the courage to take that first step.
Many people postpone their dreams because they feel they are not ready. They wait for the perfect time, the perfect instrument, or the perfect opportunity. But growth doesn’t begin when everything is in place—it begins when you decide to start with what you have.
The first practice session may feel challenging. The first performance may bring nervousness. The first composition may not meet your expectations. That’s part of the journey. Every step forward teaches a lesson that cannot be learned by standing still.
Progress belongs to those who are willing to begin, embrace the learning process, and keep moving forward despite uncertainty. Whether you’re learning your first chord, writing your first song, joining your first choir, or taking your first production class, don’t underestimate the power of starting today.
One courageous decision can become the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Reflection
What dream have you been postponing, and what is one practical step you can take today to begin?
“You don’t have to see the entire journey before you begin. One courageous step today can shape a lifetime of possibilities.” — Victor Adenola
