It's difficult to get a man to understand something when his cash flow depends on his not understanding it.

Prairie in the Okefenokee Swamp
I always imagined the Okefenokee Swamp to be mostly dark, green, cypress forest. It's not. It's mostly open "prairie" covered in a couple feet of water. It's beautiful, haunting, and full of life. But the lack of trees really gives a sense of how big the place is.https://www.nateshivar.com/29506/prairie-in-the-okefenokee-swamp/

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom recently joined the UGA Coastal Ecology Lab for a fantastic journey into the Okefenokee Swamp. If you get a chance to see the whole segment, do it! Here is the promo for it: #Nature #Okefenokee #FolkWitch #WitchSky #Ecology youtu.be/n10G5Qp0Wio?...
How American Alligators Shape ... -
An alligator bellow is one of the most incredible sounds of the Okefenokee. Alligators bellow for several reasons - to attract mates, establish their size, intimidate their rivals, & to socialize. There's nothing quite like hearing this in person! #FolkWitch #Nature #Okefenokee #WitchSky

Happy #WorldCarnivorousPlantDay! Meet the Swollen Bladderwort. She floats on the Okefenokee like a yellow star, but beneath her "snowflake" arms lies a hungry Mother. Her tiny bladders are vacuum traps that snap shut in a blink, sucking life into a watery grave. #WyrdWednesday #Okefenokee #Nature

In the Okefenokee, Motherhood has scales and cold, amber eyes. The Great Gator Mother guards a mound of rot and peat like a queen. She is the swamp’s toothy Madonna... nurturing her brood in the blackwater while ready to snap the world in half. #WyrdWednesday #Okefenokee #Witchsky

If flowers are Nymphs, pads are their shields. In Lore, these waxy discs are stepping stones for spirits; the green boundary above the blackwater depth. They weathered "killing dry" to hold space for the rain. Now, these Umbrellas of the Underworld drink. #SwampSunday #WitchSky #Okefenokee

Rain is falling over the piney woods of Brantley, Clinch, and the Swamp Heart. I can feel the marrow-ache lifting as the blackwater mirror is being refreshed. The stars aren't resting in the muck anymore; they’re rising. The sky has answered. (1 of 2) #Okefenokee #FolkWitch #WitchSky

The Cypress knows how to wait. Water lines on the bark tell the story of this 2026 drought. While the swamp rests, the Gopher Frog hides in tortoise burrows & the Carpenter Frog waits for the hammers to strike again. Protect the water. Protect the myth. #SaveTheFrogsDay #Okefenokee

The drought is heavy, but the mud remembers the stars. Beneath the ash, the seeds are waiting. Being a Folk Witch means trusting the water is coming before the first drop falls. The stars aren't gone; they’re just resting in the muck. #SwampSunday #StarsInTheMud #Okefenokee

Standing witness, I keep returning to this sign. The Swampers used to holler to break the silence; now, I’m the one hushing to hear the Land. Stirring the medicine of the mud today while the sun hangs in the haze. You too will die, but the swamp must live on. #SwampSunday #MementoMori #Okefenokee

The Okefenokee is flanked by heat, but the Heart is still holding. I’m spending today scribbling the small auguries into my notes: the lizard's path, the way the smoke curls. Every drought has a language, and I’m learning to translate it for what’s coming next. #SwampSunday #Okefenokee #WitchSky

The star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata) wears twenty-two pink tentacles on her snout like a fleshy crown, sensing the swamp’s secrets through the dark. She "sees" the earth with a "fingery" touch! A fascinating star faced mammal in the Okefenokee muck. #WyrdWednesday #EarthDay #Okefenokee

Deep in the muck lives the Two-Toed Amphiuma, a slick shadow with a dragon’s heart. No eel, but a giant salamander of the old world. When the swamp parches, she sleeps in a slime cocoon. Watch your hands in the dark water... she bites hard and never lets go. #WyrdWednesday #EarthDay #Okefenokee
