💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🪴💡 Researchers in #Germany tested how different types of artificial #light affect #nocturnal #insects at railway platforms.
They found that amber 1800K #LED lights, which lack blue light wavelengths, attracted far fewer insects than cool white LEDs or high-pressure sodium lamps. The #darksky reserve where the #study took place has already switched all its platform lights to the insect friendlier option.

En la madrugada del martes al miércoles hablo desde El Faro de la SER en #Nocturnal "somos polvo de estrellas". Eso afirmo. Y cuando lo digo siempre me apoyo en el poema "Izarren hautsa", que escribió Xabier Lete y luego musicó Mikel Laboa. Y también Lete, en una versión menos conocida pero muy especial. Y luego muchas más personas que hemos cantado ese poema tan astrofísico. -
練了一個10k的基礎有氧，雖然氣溫還是有點高，至少跑起來也還有風。晚上河濱有好多剪斯類的阿胖蟲在草叢裡製造噪音，還有一隻少見的棕色型被腳踏車輾爆。我停下來救了一隻有著劍形產卵管的雌蟲，差點被他忘恩負義的剪狀大顎咬掉一塊肉。因為體型很大顏色又鮮豔，小時候對這個蟲有點又愛怕想抓又不敢抓。我哥則是因為被咬過所以有段時間都會想把他弄死，但其實就是自己手賤。
我覺得他可能不是狹義的矛螽Pseudorhynchus，可能比較接近優草螽Euconocephalus（這個破中名不知道是誰翻的，好幾種蟲因為Eu開頭就叫做優某某，我寧可翻真錐頭螽。
這幾類頭尖尖的螽斯外型很像，但遺傳距離目前不清楚，可能有些屬之間還有雜交。種內變異缺乏完整描述，連聲學都無法反應生態演化議題，就是個沒人想做的題目。所以分類上就隨便吧。#無情的跑步仔 # 夏日鳴蟲 #nocturnal #taxonomy

“#Bigcats have a big impact. A long-term study showed that when mountain lions began regular visits to a small suburban preserve about 45 miles (72 kilometers) south of San Francisco, they changed the behavior of many other animals.
Mountain lions (Puma concolor) started appearing with increasing frequency on trail cameras at Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma) from 2015 to 2020. Researchers documented a corresponding drop in deer activity compared with the prior years of lower or absent puma activity. Vegetation surveys also showed that many woody plants deer like to eat or tend to trample, including young oak trees, began to thrive.
These types of multilevel effects, called trophic cascades, have been studied primarily in large wilderness areas, particularly cascades caused by #apexpredators such as #wolves reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park...”
