8 January 1894 | A Polish man, Fr. Maximilian Kolbe, OFM, was born in Zduńska Wola.
As a prisoner of #Auschwitz at the end of July 1941, he sacrificed his life to save a person selected for starvation death after an escape. On 14 August 1941, he was murdered with a phenol injection.

The gas chamber was divided into three smaller rooms and had a total of 236.78 square meters. The crematorium had one eight-oven furnace.
