Die Geschichte unseres Landes brüllt uns mit aller Gewalt an, und dennoch scheinen viele taub zu sein. Die Parallelen zur Endphase der Weimarer Republik sind so erschreckend, so eindeutig, dass jeder Geschichtslehrer vor Entsetzen erblassen müsste!

Die Schrecken des Nationalsozialismus begannen nicht mit Auschwitz. Sie begannen mit Worten. Mit Hass. Mit der Ausgrenzung von Minderheiten. Mit völkischem Denken. Mit der Unterscheidung zwischen "echten Deutschen" und den "Anderen".

Am 30. Januar 1933 wurde Hitler zum Reichskanzler ernannt. Es war eine legale, verfassungskonforme Machtübergabe. Es war KEINE gewaltsame Machtergreifung. Hitler kam durch demokratische Wahlen und die fatale Fehleinschätzung konservativer Eliten an die Macht!

Und was geschah in den ERSTEN WOCHEN seiner Herrschaft?

Februar 1933: Grundrechte werden durch die Reichstagsbrandverordnung außer Kraft gesetzt
März 1933: Erstes Konzentrationslager in Dachau errichtet
März 1933: Ermächtigungsgesetz beseitigt die Demokratie
April 1933: Offizieller Boykott jüdischer Geschäfte, Beginn der systematischen Judenverfolgung
Mai 1933: Bücherverbrennungen
Juli 1933: Alle Parteien außer der NSDAP werden verboten
In nur SECHS MONATEN war Deutschland von einer Demokratie zu einer Diktatur geworden! In nur SECHS MONATEN wurden alle demokratischen Institutionen zerschlagen!

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we recall one of history’s darkest chapters.

I never thought I’d witness the resurgence of antisemitism in my lifetime, nor feel uneasy about my heritage.

As someone who teaches Hebrew and Israeli culture, I see the importance of remembering history to foster understanding and respect.

Now more than ever, we must stand together, hold onto our values, and commit to a world of safety and peace for all.
