"A student at the #University of #Exeter has alleged that she was subjected to a torrent of #antisemitic abuse on #campus, despite not being #Jewish, simply due to her work with a #Holocaust #education charity.

#AmberleyThay, 20, a third-year history student who works as a regional ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust ( #HET), claimed to have been labelled a “mouthpiece for #Israel” thanks to her advocacy for more comprehensive teaching about the #Shoah.

She has been involved with the charity for four years, first engaging with it during a visit to #Auschwitz as part of its Lessons from Auschwitz project."

Today saw the inauguration of the #unesco #worldheritage visitor centre at the Old #jewish Cemetery in #Mainz. The ceremony included an address by Dr Regina Lackner, granddaughter of Sali Levi, last rabbi of the Jewish community before the #shoah. She donated her grandfather's inkwell to complement the exhibition in the new centre, named after him.

Marie Elmes was born in Cork on 5 May 1908. She was an Irish aid worker credited with saving the lives of at least 200 Jewish children at various times during the Holocaust, by hiding them in the boot of her car. She was posthumously recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
