Today was the 38th anniversary of the Mersad operation by the gang of Rajavi who attacked Iran together with Saddam's army during the most brutal and bloody stages of the Iraq-iran war.
MKO had received a large number of tanks and armored vehicles, as well as heavy weapons and amo to open a front in Kermanshah province of Iran.
For 24h, they seem to be successful, they managed to cut through Iran's defensive lines and entered the city of Kermanshah, setting up the stage to a bloodbath of IRGC, basij and regular Army soldiers before they were cut off, forced to retreat back to Iraq.
The October 7 style of shock wave went through the whole government and gave Khomeini an excuse to initiate the worst crime against humanity in iran's modern history. His orders were simple:
- cleanse the prisons from anyone who is not loyal to the regime
For weeks starting in August and into September of 1988, some 10000 political prisoners all over Iran were executed or hanged and their bodies buried in shallow graves in Khavaran, Mashahd, Ahvaz and Tabriz.
I lost 3 friends, my cousin and my highschool math teacher during the massacre.

Death of Zoia Markovna Horn [née Polisar] (b.1918), who, in 1972, became the 1st librarian in USA to be jailed for refusing to share information as a matter of conscience.
A member of the ALA’s Intellectual Freedom Committee, Horn—who then worked at Bucknell University—was jailed for nearly 3 weeks for contempt of court after refusing to testify for the prosecution, despite being granted immunity, in the conspiracy…

25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the AP showed that #Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.
#AlGore, who chose the Israeli firster #Lieberman as his VP accepted the defeat the next day and paved the road to the worst crimes against humanity in modern time by GwB.

The Black revolutionary was assassinated by the FBI and Chicago police.
Today, we honor his life, legacy and revolutionary spirit in the struggle for justice and liberation.
PS. It's not Stalin's Soviet or MbS' Saudi Arabia, it's the US of A who did it and their kids don't learn about it in school.

135000 people died in a matter of seconds and many more carried the scars of the most monstrous #WMD with them for decades.
Today's #Gaza looks so much like Hiroshima. But unlike Hiroshi, the civilians in Gaza are dying a painful and torturous death in the past 22 months.

On Apr. 17, 1961, 1,400 Cuban exile troops, armed and trained by the CIA, with U.S. air and naval support, launched an #invasion of #Cuba at the Bay of Pigs with the intention of toppling Cuba's revolutionary government. Most of the invaders were captured or killed.

Some books were bought from local members of the public, but most were brought over from Europe. By 1788, the library held 2000 volumes. How a massacre of Algerians in Paris was covered up 17 October 1961
Around 30,000 Algerians had taken to the streets of Paris in a peaceful protest against a curfew, and calling for independence nearly seven years into the war against French rule in North Africa, which had occasionally spilled onto the streets of the French capital.On 17 October 1961, the police killed at least 100 protesters, some of whom were thrown into the River Seine, making it one of the darkest pages of #France's chequered colonial #history.

#OTD #TIH 01 Nov 1903: Death of Theodor Mommsen (b. 1817), German scholar & jurist. On 12 Jul 1880 at 2a.m., fire broke out in his house at Marchstrasse 6, Berlin. Several #MedievalManuscripts were burnt to ashes: MS O.4.36, a loan from Trinity College Cambridge; an important Jordanes manuscript from Heidelberg Uni; & other #manuscripts. After being burned whilst attempting to rescue the #books, he had to be restrained to prevent him from re-entering the blazing house. @bookhistodons
