How much more proof do people need that the #Israelis are genocidal monsters?

#Israel demanded that all people in #Lebanon leave territory within 25 miles from the Israeli border, bombing millions of people to emphasize their point.

But behind the scenes, Israeli officials have conveyed a more targeted message.

In private calls to local leaders across southern Lebanon, Israeli military officials have assured several #Christian and #Druze communities that they could remain in the evacuation zone. They have pressed them, however, to force out any Lebanese from neighboring #Shiite #Muslim communities who have sought refuge among them as Israeli bombardments flatten Shiite towns. The Shiites make up the majority of southern Lebanon.

Israel has no right to be in Lebanon at all. I remind you of 1982’s #Sabra and #Shatila massacres. Yes, an Israeli company did name their hummus in honor of 3500 dead Lebanese.

    They are monsters.

As many as 3,500 Palestinians and Lebanese civilians were killed in the massacre. Survivors have described horrific acts committed by the Israeli-backed forces, including sexual assault, mass executions and the mutilation of bodies.

Decades of efforts to bring the Israeli and Lebanese perpetrators to justice have failed to ensure meaningful accountability for the victims.

  19. People who've been reading me for a while may know I really like #hummus.

A while back, I posted about buying a different brand when I was shopping at a different store than I usually go to. It was a brand called Fontaine that I wasn't familiar with - made in Quebec, I believe.

It was awful. Actually inedible. I had one bite and had to throw the container away.

Well, yesterday I was at my local Real Canadian #Superstore - the local flavour of big #Loblaw grocery store - and all the space in the cooler normally occupied by #Sabra hummus - the brand I usually buy, and quite like - was instead taken up by "President's Choice" (house brand) stuff which I don't recall them having before. And there was also Fontaine-branded stuff, which I've never seen there before.

And, uh-oh, the President's Choice stuff is the same sickly pale colour as the Fontaine stuff. Could it be made by #Fontaine for them?

I needed hummus, and those were the two brands available, so I got the President's Choice. And yep, I would bet it's made by Fontaine, although the packaging has absolutely zero info about the source on it, other than "prepared in Canada" [1]. It's #inedible, and I threw out another container.

I guess I'm going to have to make my own. There are a million recipes out there - any favourites you'd care to share?

[1] Read this as "not made in Canada". They probably import chickpea paste and the other ingredients and just put them through a mixer in Canada.

  22. Random #bitching...

I like #hummus. I happened to be at Sobey's and decided to get some, though it's not where I usually buy hummus. They had this brand, "Fontaine Sante" (sorry, I can't type diacritical marks), and I bought the roasted red pepper "classic natural hummus". It's this one:

    fontainesante.com/en/products/

It has the usual ingredients you'd expect - chickpeas, tahini, garlic, salt, lemon juice, oil - plus the roasted red pepper. Nothing unusual there.

And it's ... awful. Not only does it not taste like any hummus I've ever had, it actually tastes downright unpleasant. I'm going to end up throwing the nearly-full container in the trash, and I *hate* wasting food. And no, it's not past its best-before date or anything like that. It's fresh.

I feel bad, because it's a Canadian company, but this stuff is inedible. The brand I usually buy is Sabra, but they don't carry that at Sobey's, plus it's American. I can eat their stuff by the pound.

Anyone familiar with this Fontaine Sante brand? Is it always like this?

no matter how the media twists this latest massive state sponsored cyber terror attack (since #Stuxnet) against Lebanon, this should be condemned and the role Motorola played in helping the Israeli cyber army to blow up pagers all over Lebanon should be investigated and condemned.

100s of innocent civilians, many of them doctors and nurses were injured during yesterdays cyber attacks against Motorola made pagers that turned them into remote controlled bombs.

  27. Remembering #Sabra and #Shatila, 42 years on: testimonies.

French writer Jean Genet, one of the first to enter Shatila after the massacre said, "I have spent four hours in Shatila, and what remains in my memory are around forty bodies, all of which—and I emphasize all—have likely been tortured, amidst the ecstasy of the torturers, their songs, their laughter, and amidst the smell of gunpowder. The smell of the corpses was not coming out of a house or from a mangled body; rather, it seemed to me that my body and my being were the ones emitting that smell."

Picture 2 shows Mohammed Said Wihibeh with photos of his martyred family members. He stated, "I'll tell you, they took a boy, just a little boy, and they tore him in half. They literally tore him in half by the legs. And we screamed, 'why?!' They said he would only grow up to be a terrorist! My grandson, what did he do to get killed? First of all, they killed his mother—they hadn't seem him, he was asleep in his cot. He started to cry; of course he did, he wanted his mother. They took him, and they killed him."

Picture 3 shows Lebanese martyr Ilham Dhaher Al-Miqdad, 23 years old, of Shatila camp. She was martyred with her ID in her hand.

Pictures 4 and 5 show Milana Boutros, a Lebanese witness to the massacre, punished for marrying a Palestinian man: she was kept alive to "teach her a lesson" as the Phalangists murdered her entire family.

The second video shows the touching moment that the Palestinian poet Rehab Kanaan, who lost 54 of her family members as martyrs of the Sabra and Shatila massacres, met her daughter on television for the first time in years after believing her to be martyred. The video needs no subtitles, as the raw emotions transcend all languages.

From story by late Robert Fisk 12 years ago

The memories remain, of course. The man who lost his family in an earlier massacre, only to watch the young men of Chatila lined up after the new killings and marched off to death. But – like the muck piled on the garbage tip amid the concrete hovels – the stench of injustice still pervades the camps where 1,700 Palestinians were butchered

  30. Forty-two years ago today, the Israeli military facilitated the killing of as many as 3,500 Palestinian and Lebanese civilians in the Sabra neighbourhood and Shatila refugee camp in Beirut.

Israeli troops had laid siege to the camp and allowed allied right-wing Christian fighters to enter it and commit atrocities against defenceless people there. The slaughter went on for three days.

Most of the victims were Palestinian.
