On the irony of Ashkenazi Jews using "looking European" as a rhetorical weapon against Palestinians [apropos of #Wix's "unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans,"] meet Esther Schreiber, non-archaeologist with inflated CV and an elaborate cloth headscarf resembling a tea towel (a "tichel")... This one was appointed by Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu to lead the Israel Antiquities Authority. Eliyahu also advanced a bill to create a "Judea and Samaria Heritage Authority" for occupied West Bank, replacing military archaeology officer, with land expropriation powers in Areas A+B+C. Eliyahu said it's "an interim stage until full sovereignty."

Israelis express dismay that the world appears insufficiently appalled by recent violence against Israeli civilians, even as concurrent and even more horrific loss of life unfolds in Gaza. Many feel justified in withholding empathy from Palestinians during ongoing clashes, regardless of the asymmetries.
Whether liberals, conservatives, and most definitely not the deplorable settlers and messianic Jews, these days most simply don’t seem to care.
This is what it looks like from a conservative, but not religious, point of view.
[Intolerable] pundit Avri Gilad writes the following in Israel Hayom:
"For the uninvolved observer it is unpleasant to see “palestinian masses” [*] crowded into tents and huts on the outskirts of Rafah, […] refugees in their own land, in winter, it is never a good sight. From #Nakba to #Nakba, from expulsion to expulsion. A people, if it can even be called a people, whose main or perhaps only characteristic is its refugee status […] those who pretends to be in need, those who masquerades as something they are not in order to get what they do not deserve, will end up becoming what they impersonated. The Arabs living in the Land of Israel have been pretending to be refugees for 75 years,"
[*] he’s addressing Palestinians using a form that ignores them being a people, and a spelling of #Palestine that avoids the contemporary meaning
There’s no way around this mentality, which frankly, these days is mainstream. Israelis will never accept the fact that they are the problem, so the world needs to remind them of that fact. Recognizing a Palestinian state is exactly what’s needed right now, and #Israel has no say in that regard. You don’t get to subjugate another people, pretend it doesn’t exist, and still demand the world’s empathy.
I’ll refrain from the apartheid South Africa analogy, since what Israel has done in Gaza is a different category of evil. And if it’s not clear why, these words should help clear any lingering doubts:
