Flew up to Oregon today. Ooof, that wildfire smoke. I actually got close enough to one of them that I could see the base of the fire (unable to see flames, but the ground was smoking). ADS-B showed several firefighting aircraft taking care of it, but I wasn’t able to see any. Not surprising, spotting aircraft is hard. ADS-B is a lifesaver.

I love the old art-deco Douglas logo. I have a wood box with that logo on it. The box was used by my Dad to carry his metal tool box back & forth--on a DC-3-- from the Santa Monica Douglas plant to White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico when he worked on the captured German V2 rockets & also to Florida's Cape Canaveral to launch the first rockets from what later became the Kennedy Space Center.

26 years ago, July 25, 2000: Air France Flight 4590 Concorde crash in Paris killed all 100 passengers & 9 crew aboard. The chain of events was started with foreign object debris FOD that fell from a Continental DC-10. A metal strip cut a tire which exploded, ruptured a fuel tank and started a fire that brought down the plane. Closing in on 300k messages processed an hour.

Completely rewritten in Python to keep up and do in memory parsing.

Serverless functions handle posting and filtering.

AND IT ALL STARTED ON THE FEDI
