Back in the day, this coming weekend would be such a massive occasion for my home city of Sunderland, as crowds poured in to watch the 'International Airshow' taking place down on the seafront between Seaburn and Roker.
This photograph was taken at the 2019 event, which as it happened, turned out to be the last.
There was no appearance that year of the famous Red Arrows as they were doing a summer tour across in the USA.
The show was cancelled in 2020, 2021, and 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and then Sunderland City Council announced in October 2022 that it has "no plans" to hold the airshow again, citing the "global climate emergency" and the city’s aim to be carbon neutral by 2040.
The Sunderland International Airshow remains a big summer miss for many!
