The Speakeasy at Bardic Perspiration is a close-knit community of misfits, rogues, and activists who all share a desire to make this and every world a better place.

We're mostly friendly, sometimes salty, and more often than not inappropriate as hells because what fun is life if we're all going around being proper all of the time? Above all, though, we're here to relax between fighting evil and not bothering to take its names.

Speakeasies were places that laughed in the face of those who sought to control others people's lives and bodies. As misfits, the idea of an invite only home for like-minded people resonated with us. We wanted a place where we could speak our minds, share our truths, and plot the (obviously entirely legal and nonviolent) overthrow of tyranny and authoritarianism everywhere. And now, we have one!

As someone who is every day in multiple video conferences I'm always surprised that hardly any tool is able to create user friendly invitations. Most of the time I get a wall of text in the meeting description, often with multiple links, and than I have to search for the right link to join the meeting.

The link to the meeting belongs to the "location" field! The description is for additional information such as the meeting agenda.

This is one of many reasons why I appreciate invitations via Nextcloud Talk so much. It is one of the few tools that does this correctly.

So how will #Apple #Invites differ from the multitude of other apps who have tried, and failed, to create an 'invite friends to something' ecosystem?

* When you have an event, you have to remember the app
* Have to go through the hoops of creating the event and invites
* You have to get your friends to sign up to an #iCloud account. Yeah, no

I get that Apple wants to create a post-FB ecosystem, but it's funny how weirdly bad they have always been at social and collaboration.

Apple on Tuesday introduced a new app called Invites that lets users create custom invitations and share them with family and friends. But while the app might have been a surprise, it wasn’t a pleasant one for everyone.

Ok so in Apple’s new #Invites app, it has options for both Location and Directions. But when I select the Directions button, it just opens the same screen as the Location. So both of them just display the address. Is there any way to actually add directions, or for example tell people what the transport options are?

You need an iCloud+ subscription to create invites. However, anyone can RSVP – even without an Apple device.

With this launch, Apple is stepping into the space dominated by Partiful, Evite, and Paperless Post. But will it truly replace them?
