Holy heck, what happened to #DIGG?!?
It's 100% hallucinating AI-generated articles. It's completely out to lunch!
Example headline:
"Pope XIV announces partnership with Anthropic to address the ethical and moral implications of advanced AI"
Yeah, that didn't happen.

Okay so Digg charged me $5 to be a part of the next 'Reddit replacement' - now they're pivoting again to whatever this is?

#Digg has relaunched as an #AInews #aggregator, aiming to rank news based on engagement metrics from X. The site showcases top stories, ranked individuals, companies, and politicians in the AI space. While it could be useful for tracking AI news, it’s unclear if it will attract regular users or compete with existing news platforms. https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/11/digg-tries-again-this-time-as-an-ai-news-aggregator/?eicker.news #tech #media #news

TechCrunch: Digg tries again, this time as an AI news aggregator. “In an email to beta testers, the company said the site’s goal is to ‘track the most influential voices in a space’ and to surface the news that’s actually worth ‘paying attention to.’ AI is the area it’s testing this idea with, but if successful, Digg will expand to include other topics. The email warned that the site was […]

Digg tries again, this time as an aggregator of news about AI
This time around, the site is focused on ranking news - specifically, AI news. In an email to beta testers, the company said the site’s goal is to “track the most influential voices in a space” and to surface the news that’s actually worth “paying attention to.” AI is the area it’s testing this idea with, but if successful, Digg will expand to include other topics.
It scrapes x.com and uses that to decide what’s newsworthy.

PC World: Digg founder pitches Mozilla to save Pocket. “Pocket’s imminent demise has been bemoaned across the industry. Now, one entrepreneur has expressed interest in keeping it alive. Kevin Rose—who founded Digg.com, became a venture capitalist, and is now trying to bring Digg back—has petitioned Mozilla to let Digg take over Pocket.”

#Digg used to be a decent platform. They made mistakes, shut down, and moved on.
Fast forward — they start up *again*, seemingly redoing their original thing, only to shut it all down, and launch and entire site dedicated to #AI slop, scraped from places like xitter.
TL;DR — Kevin is a soulless, grifting chode.

"In this environment, eIDAS 2.0, which came into force in May 2024, marks a significant step forward. It aims to strengthen European digital sovereignty and provide secure, unified and interoperable digital identification across the EU."

Asking again: If #Digg was invaded by AI bots, why was it so empty?

When I look at the Mastodon Server Covenant, I realize that the #Digg team is less professional.
Point 4: “Commitment to give users at least 3 months of advance warning in case of shutting down”

DiggDead
We're a gaming site sure, but I think our broader focus is on using computers for entertainment purposes, and it's not as if sites like Digg and its aggregation successor Reddit don't gameify their workings to a significant extent, what with the reputation and the karma and the scoring and whatnot.Digg has been restarted before, in fact several times! Some history is called for here.

It seems like the digg.com reboot isn't happening.

digg.com was an interesting place on the web in the 2000s. It's sad how they relaunched it and had to shut it down yesterday, thanks to the infestation by AI bots.
AI seems to be shitting on just about everything.

TechCrunch: Digg lays off staff and shuts down app as company retools. “The startup had set out to offer an alternative to existing community forums, where people could post and share links, media, and text, and engage in topical discussions. But while Digg had clever ideas on how to better moderate content and verify that users were who they claimed to be, the company admits it was overwhelmed […]
