  1. When I'm learning a new long complicated passphrase, I write it on a piece of paper that I carry with me all the time.

Now that I have memorized it the time has come to get rid of the paper.
I lit it on fire with a lighter under the kitchen fan.

Almost feels like something from a movie 😅 🤷‍♂️

  3. So this is confusing.
#BitWarden is telling me the #passphrase for one of my email #accounts (which includes capitalization, numbers, and symbols) is a #weak and #compromised #password and I need to change it "now".
    Except...
    My
#email address does not appear in Have I Been Pwned?/ #HIBP, and the password itself does not appear in any #DataBreaches.
So I'd really like to know WHY BitWarden is
#warning me about this password, and more importantly... why?
Note: I own the email infrastructure and am in control of it for the account and passphrase in question.

  11. #Crypto# scammers are using #Calendly to send out #meeting #invites warning you to hand over your #Coinbase #recovery #passphrase or they threaten you will lose access to your wallet.

How do I know this? Because I just received one.

I don't even have a Coinbase account so not sure what their end game is here.

  12. I am waiting for #AI to get good enough to work out my #PGP passphrases for the last 30 years.

They are only going to be a combination of about 50 words with various capitalisations and probably few filler words.

I don't need them, it just bugs me that without fail, I will forget any PGP #password I set within a year of doing it, and I have piles of the bloody things. Next time I will just backup one with no #passphrase too.

#security #sucks ... Oh, wait, that might be one of the early #keys!

  16. @privacysafe @pluralistic
    🤔 What the heck is a #passphrase?

Instead of “Xg$7p!zQ” a passphrase is a long, random set of words like “correct horse battery staple” (thanks @xkcd )

#PrivacySafe Bot uses a @eff wordlist to ensure randomness + avoid phrases attackers can guess. 🔑 privacysafe.bot

  18. @scruss okay this is getting close to it. I think I need a better font still, and to figure out how to either "weather" it, or just vectorize the entire comic. I'm not going to vectorize the entire comic. I will not vectorize the...

    convert -font "Bad-Comic" -fill black -pointsize 110 -interline-spacing -37 -gravity North -annotate +60+30 "$(shuf -n7 /usr/share/dict/words|tr 'a-z' 'A-Z')" ~/sluggo.png ~/out.png

edit: I think I got the text dimensions about right at least now.
(Next up relearn "lp" and figure out the "magick" command because it hates me using "convert")

    #sluggo #passphrase #shell

  20. 🌱 Kähähä, soil-root-leafy secured this Mastodon-Account with biometric data, so we kind of hacked into it!
Now we can start sending root-pics. Greetings, four water-rooted Leafy-Clones.

    Remember:
You can always change your password,
    you can always change your key;
    but you never ever change
    your biometrical identity!

  22. @Anibyl I was hit with the same Big Corp Compliance bs 💩 But the big frameworks (NIST SP 800-63B / PCI-DSS) don't actually require this madness! I collected some quotes here: søb.org/password/ in case people want to fight this internally

  26. proton.me/blog/what-is-passphr

Proton has a nice rundown of passphrases, vs passwords, even using a famous Randall Munroe XKCD comic in its discussion. It covers what a passphrase is, and how it stacks up vs passwords from a security perspective. (They do of course plug their new password manager a little)

    You should change your passphrase.

Vous devriez changer votre passe fraise.

😂 just another ugly #malware that #hijacks #routers with #RougeDNS settings to infect devices and expand their #botarmy. yet another reason why you don't use open SSIDs and you keep a solid #passphrase on your wifi network, or use #certificates if you can for work thehackernews.com/2023/01/roam

  31. @bitwarden I'll use strong passwords until #Bitwarden and #KeypassXC take a checkbox list of custom dictionaries as input for their #passphrase generators.
This list containing international wiktionaries would be great.
