Excerpt: If the SSS doesn’t get new rules and procedures in place in time, its options will be to (1) miss the legal deadline, (2) get Congress to postpone the effective date of the change in the law, or (3) get Congress to rescind the change in the law. Congress could either restore the widely ignored mandate for young men to register themselves, or repeal the Military Selective Service Act entirely.
The bottom line: “automatic” draft registration is not yet a done deal. Keep up the resistance!

New story, same steps: handwritten draft retyped into the app. I screamed. There are few other authors who make me fangirl as much. This is the first time I've gotten this result. I took a screenshot because I'm about to start editing and something tells me it won't stay this way.

Well, what do you know. The first digital rewrite of the handwritten draft obliterated Daniel Defoe from the results. The subsequent tweaking and polishing washed my boat up on the ever familiar shore -- Ursula K. Le Guin. I guess this is the writing gait of my mind.

After yesterday's chaotic search through digital folders, only to find the draft I was looking for handwritten in a notebook, I've returned to longhand drafting. This way, my brain creates using its parts that otherwise hide from the screen glare. It's like another version of me takes over. The story also comes more easily. I've written two drafts of a new story in a couple of hours. A special heatwave bonus: no laptop roasts me while I think.

I've just dug out and reanimated old semi-broken laptops, combed through old files, old apps, old disks -- all because I was searching for a draft I KNEW I had made, but it was nowhere to be found. You know how I finally unearthed it? By digging through a drawer! It was written in pencil in a spiral notebook that a few silverfish now call their home.

My two cents on the #Iran "Deal".
I live in the #US and turned 18 while the #War in #Vietnam was still a thing. I went thru the last two military #Draft calls under #Nixon. I was lucky!
The only good thing about that war was that it ended! It was an obvious #mistake and the effort to save face and keep the #warmongers happy only delayed the inevitable.
The good news is both sides progressed and we are now on friendly terms with our former "enemy". That is a blessing.🙏
Our current war with #Iran is even more ill-advised, unnecessary, & incompetent. The only possible good outcome is that it END as quickly as possible. (It is far from over IMO.)
We elected #Trump, he started this war of choice, and now the entire US needs to eat humble pie and move on. Let him claim some sort of "art of the deal" victory. The only thing that matters is stopping the death and destruction!💀
The other historical parallel is how we got into Vietnam in the first place. We willingly took over from the colonial French based on fear of #Communism and falling dominoes. The current conflict was basically instigated by, or on behalf of, #Israel. Trump was lead by the nose down a garden path with promises of a quick fix in the #MiddleEast. There can be no such thing.
