  1. Even Ars Technica has finally figured it out.

"To make matters worse, it turned out that much of that confidence in amyloid-β as the one true cause was built on fake data."

An article in STAT (2019, by Sharon Begley), discussed this. The author of that article passed away, but she was, IMHO, spot on.

A study has found that glycogen plays an important part in Alzheimer's Disease. It has previously been ignored as it was known to be stored in liver cells and and muscles. But now it has been found in brain cells in the past where small amounts have been beneficial. However now it is understood that it can accumulate and lead to the production of tau proteins. By breaking the glycogen down it may help to prevent Alzheimer's.

Now, researchers at #MayoClinic and collaborators have uncovered unique #molecular signatures of blood-brain barrier #dysfunction that could point to new ways to diagnose and treat the disease. Their findings are published in Nature Communications.

  16. A few long form pieces outside my area of expertise: this on #AlzheimerDisease in #QuantaMagazine I found extremely interesting and also heartbreaking - it's a very complex disease and there is much scientific uncertainty around the causes. Worth a read: quantamagazine.org/what-causes
