CMS is ending the Medicare Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration on December 31. The program paid a monthly subsidy toward standalone drug plan premiums, $15 per member in 2025 and $10 in 2026, and capped how far those premiums could rise year over year. Without it, the increases land in 2027 plan pricing.

Medical talking heads & advisors make a big deal about the necessity of social contact (presumably face to face & IRL) for senior citizens like me but FTF IRL does not work for me.
I prefer the anonymous but not less genuine interaction here on SFBA.social and on other interest focused sites that I participate in which give me a sense of community without all of the social obligation that comes with "real life" interaction.
It's not that I do not socialize with people in real life but I only do so in moderation and to a much lesser extend that the "experts' recommend & my health -- both mental & physical -- does not seemed to have suffered as a result.

This article is about the anticipated wealth transfer from Boomers (like me, who currently range in age from 62 to 80) to their family members (&/or to charities) after they die.
I'm generation skipping because my son turned out to be an ungrateful SOB. So, I currently plan to transfer all of my $/assets to my 2 grandchildren but, if they turn out to be ungrateful SOBs too, I'll give it all to charity.
I don't feel like I owe any of them anything & I don't want them to know how much $ they're likely to receive because I don't want that knowleege to affect how they relate & treat me before I die.
All I'd like to get some unsolicited attention & respect from them as their grandfather &, if I get that, they'll get the $. Otherwise not!
We'll see . . .

I'm intentionally shifting my focus away from public utilities and jobs that require a lot of long distance travel, and marketing now toward residential and small business "help desk" work. "IT by the hour."
Today I tried something new. I used the "Contact Us" page at an upscale senior living community to send this message:

I provide computer tech support by the hour, on site or remote. I live in Renton. My business is licensed and insured. I’m 71 years old, but not retired. A lot of my work is with elderly residential clients. I taught computer repair and computer networks at Bellevue College and Everett Community College for 17 years. Is there any demand for “help desk” services among your residents? I’d love the opportunity to come to the office and have a no-cost “getting to know you” meeting in person. Then, if you approve, I can give you some business cards and a card holder to put on a counter or desk.

@TimWardCam You know, as I get closer to "retirement age", I'm finding out how much the #CaptalistSystem really fails folks who are #Seniors and who aren't #Millionaires or #Billionaires -- forcing them to have to do a mind-boggling amount of research to figure out if a Medicaid program will cover certain costs or even if you are covered if you leave the state to visit someone. It's horrible! And imagine folks with #MemoryIssues having to sort through all this BS? It's quite cruel! One of my friends who is a veteran was asked what his retirement plan was. His reply was "Drop dead in my vending booth" (he vends to make ends meet). Yikes! That's no way to take care of people -- especially those who have served!

Hello. I joined Friendica in October of 2024, after Facebook closed their Basic Mobile site (not app). I live in New Jersey and am forty-one years old. Some of my interests include studying dandyism, nineteenth-century grammar, Upper Received Pronunciation, British history, and the Regency. I like coffee, tea, wine, nasal snuff, cooking, hot baths, reading British literature, watching nature and historical documentaries, gardening, hot weather, and playing cards and dice. I also love cats. In classical music, I enjoy Baroque through a bit of early Romantic, while in popular, I usually prefer 1950's through 1970's. I love theatre (especially English and Viennese operettas, Edwardian musical comedies), and some Regency/Georgian plays. I prefer antique menswear and accessories. It's my dream to either buy a genuine Edwardian suit or have one commissioned. I love wit, wordplay, and dry humour without vulgarity. My parents are lesbians, and I am a huge gay rights supporter, but I stop short of using singular they and promoting the idea of more than two sexes, though you can certainly lean more towards one while being the other (as I do being a masculine woman), or change from one to the other via hormones, surgery etc. I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to Retinopathy of Prematurity.I am happily childfree and am not religious. I hardly ever write about politics. I tend to get along better with people older than I, but I will accept friends twenty-one and over. I have no understanding of chronic illness, anxiety, depression, loneliness, etc. I enjoy hearing about cats, cooking or gardening adventures, antiques, and interesting life stories.
