  1. this is why we do #science and run #clinicaltrials. making drugs to lower inflammation in patients with #atherosclerosis lowers #inflammation but mysteriously doesn’t seem to impact the actual disease. This challenges a rock, solid belief that inflammation is the cause and good scientists change their minds thankfully and we can pursue other angles now. still a pretty weird result though. yay science

  2. Everyday exposure to #microplastics — tiny fragments shed from packaging, clothing, and countless plastic products — may accelerate the development of #atherosclerosis the artery-clogging process that leads to #heart attacks and #strokes

  3. Great Tuesday Talk by Ilze Bot of the @LED3hub. She talked about her group's work into better understanding the involvement of #inflammation in the development of #atherosclerosis and its implications for therapy.

  4. Researchers found a chemical cause of #atherosclerosis, a major cause of heart attacks and strokes. Gut biomes can produce imidazole propionate, which causes inflammation, which in turn causes fatty deposits inside blood vessels. The 15-year study was just published in Nature.

“Imidazole propionate induces atherosclerosis on its own. There’s a causal relationship.”

Some colorectal #cancer is linked to another gut culprit: Escherichia coli toxin, colibactin.

  6. 🚨 Breaking News: #Aspartame, the villainous #sweetener, apparently has a side gig in aggravating #atherosclerosis through a nefarious insulin inflammation plot! 🙄 Meanwhile, ScienceDirect's superior user experience shines through yet another "oops" moment, with more support tickets than actual insights. 🤦‍♂️ #ScienceFail #NotSoSweet

  12. #Atherosclerosis is considered a frequent cause of #cardiovascular diseases and #strokes. Despite medical progress, case numbers are constantly rising. Targeted new therapeutic approaches are therefore more important than ever.

  13. Lance Reddick died of ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. It's a common misconception that only overweight or obese people develop plaque-clogged arteries. It can happen to anyone. 😧

Bulk #RNAseq of advanced carotid plaques from 654 patients. This data yielded five plaque types that correlate with clinical representation. And add an additional layer of information on top of the standard #histology.

  15. #introduction Long overdue, but here goes:

I'm Arjan, during working hours researching a specific children's #cancer, #neuroblastoma, mostly by means of #bioinformatics analyses of #sequencing data; right now lots of #scRNAseq . I might occasionally toot about this, or related stuff like #immunology , #rstats , #atherosclerosis and other scientific interests and/or fields that I've worked in.
