#fedihelp I am trying to procure a legal copy of the 2011 Taiwan film “Starry Starry Night” that can be played/viewed in North America.
Anyone know where I should go to look? My web searches have been quite fruitless.
Thanks for your help 🙏 -
I just love me a good dual boot. Installing @AsahiLinux on the #macbookpro was super easy.
Now It's time to tinker :ABlobFoxBongo: -
My new lappy arrived! This is the first time since college that I have had a “modern” laptop.
I picked up second hand a 14” #MacbookPro with the M2 Max chip. -
Maybe tonight I may try to install #Minecraft on my 2013 #MBP. It should run cooler but downside is it only has 8gigs of (soldered on) RAM.
Maybe I need to repaste the 2011 MBP sooner than later. -
I installed #Minecraft on the 2011 #MacbookPro. The results are…. Interesting….
-
#Butterbian just got a bit better and smoother (for me) by adding a dash of #Gnome to my set up. It might a be a bit more work for this lower powered #ebox, but now it is more fun to use.
-
This weekend I did some tinkering with the 2015 #iMac. Running #Sequoia via #OpencoreLegacyPatcher started to make the #Mac chug hard.
I attempted installing a few different #linux based distros but the ones I tried (that I was interested in) all failed/crashed after installing.
So I went with my favorite “newish” #macOS, Monterey. Now all my old #intel macs run good ol’ Monty and I am very okay with that. -
Seriously I love the #modding community so much. This weekend I accidentally borked my jailbreaked #PSTV (#psvita). Within a few steps (after disregarding the old set up method) I was able to get it re-jailbreaked and running better than before.
I was even able to add an external nvme drive for additional storage space.
I can’t wait to check out the #homebrew scene with things like Animal Crossing Vita. -
I'm not sure which one I am more stoked about: the 2011 #Macbook running #macOS12 buttery smooth or that the community version of macOS #Mavericks on the 2013 Macbook runs so GD well. Either way it is all #awesome.
-
After many many many hours, both #Macbookpro now dual boots with a a “classic” OSX and a “modern” OSX.
MBP11 boots #Snow #MacOSXsnowleopard and #macOS12.
MBP13 boots #macOSMavericks and macOS 12 (Monterey)
#OpencoreLegacyPatcher is f’n awesome. -
So here are the Mac #shenanigans I am getting into:
1) Swap out 128gig ssd to 480gig in 2011 #MacBookPro
2) Restore backup of #MacOSXsnowleopard
3) Set up partition to dual boot, hopefully, #macOSMonterey
While also:
4) Do fresh install of #macOSMavericks to the 2013 MBP
5) partition drive to dual boot Monterey.
Then I will have some old and “newish” OS to play around with both MBP -
Alright team, I am going to give #BSD another try. What is the best version of BSD that I can install on an Alder Lake #N100 Intel CPU?
I have a mini pc that is collecting dust at the moment and I gots the BSD itch.
Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions. I am trying out #NomadBSD which is based on #FreeBSD. Supposedly it is fairly new user friendly. The documentation is easy to follow.
If this goes belly up, I will try the other big three. At this time I don’t want to go through with manually setting up a desktop environment. -
I am trying to get more comfortable with the #CLI. Tinkering around with the #RpiZ2w is making it fun and keeps the stakes low if I mess up.
Currently I have #Tmux, #MidnightCommander, #Pyradio, #Hyfetch, #Btop and more installed. If you know of other fun #TUI based programs (that do not need a lot of compiling power), holler at yo boi! -
Last night I had the 2011 #macbook pro running #MacOSXsnowleopard side by side next to the 2013 macbook pro running #Monterey. It was crazy seeing how much has changed but also how much stayed the same.
I like the #QOL improvements that #Apple has made to their OS (not including #MacOS26Tahoe) but I do miss the older #skeuomorphic and stylings of the earlier #OSX; it just had more character. -
The update to #BigSur worked out well. #Openpatcher got me up to Sequoia, but oh boy is it chugging.
So I am going to downgrade to my third favorite #MacOS and my favorite “modern” MacOS: #Monterey -
#Mavericks is installed. Now I am jumping the gun to install #BigSur. Then with #openpatcher legacy I will move to #Sequoia 😈
-
Wait, am I becoming bored with #Linux? Reinstalling my second favorite #MaxOSX #Mavericks on the 2013 #MacbookPro
-
I think I have been surfing the web more this week on my “ancient” #macbook_pro running #MacOSXsnowleopard than any of my other available devices individually 🤯
-
I have literally became addicted to #librofm. To the peeps that mentioned this to me and or in general, thank you.
-
Believe it or not, this toot was posted by a 15 year old #Macbook running #MacOSXsnowleopard. Life is pretty good right now.

This should be the last major upgrade I will be doing with my main pc; I have hit the end of the line with #AM4.
When I need to upgrade, I am going to switch to an ATX form factor. I’m getting tired of working in tight spaces. -
Weekend tech #shenanigans update:
1) I was able to force update my media server to #Ubuntu 25.10.
Once the new #LTS drops I will switch and stay on that.
2) On the #Ebox I tried out a few distros before landing on @opensuse #Kalpa. Besides a few instances of screen flickering when tweaking widgets, it has been working fine -
This video by #CGPGrey has aged well like fine wine. Who needs humans anymore?
https://youtu.be/7Pq-S557XQU?si=UnbEX5Op_kgqjiYE -
The switcheroo went well. The #macbook is running well and fully functional (webcam and wifi) on #OpenSUSE #Slowroll.
The #Ebox is running fantastically well on #UltramarineLinux.
So overall, it has been a pretty good night. Oh, and I switched the kiddo's lappy over to #Cinnamon. He likes a more Windows 10 setup. -
Now with the #ebox running #UltraMarineLinux, it is running smoother and faster than the previous #distros that I have tested out. I was even able to get some more point and click Steam games to work than before. Here is a lil theming I did.
-
I am slowly but surely turning the lil #ebox running #OpenSUSE #Slowroll into a 2D/pixel art #PointAndClick "powerhouse."
Send me all of your 2D/pixel art style point and click game recommendations. -
@dhry I ziggeded instead of zagged. I am installing #OpenMamba on the ebox. It’s an independent DNF based rolling distro with #KDE as their standard DE. They have the broadcom firmware in their repos (I did not test since the ebox has no wireless connections).
-
While working on the #ebox, I was also toying around with the #orangepizero2w. After some tweaking, purging, and updating, I know have the Opi running #Debian #Trixie with the @tde Trinity desktop environment. It's running pretty snappy for most things; web browsing is really the only exception.
#Neofetch #Btop #SomaFM -
Not too shabby for a couple of hours playin' around. I think I will stay on #q4os and #kdeplasma for awhile on this lil #ebox. Hopefully q4os will be updating to #Debain #Trixie soon 🤞
Here is the obligatory #Neofetch screenshot
Shout out to @somafm for providing me the background music to tool around on this lil pc. -
The #ebox arrived and now I am able to play with it. It is super clean inside and out.
Currently it is running Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB. This is the cleanest Windows install I have ever seen.
For thise that like specs:
Processor: Intel Celeron 3965U
RAM: 16 gigs
Internal/built-in storage: 120gig -
Between sumo matches I have been playing around with #JWM on the #OrangePiRV2 tonight.
I like the idea of regularly using a simple window manager but trying to get all the programs/apps/packages to play nice with each other can be a pain. -
Stayed up way too late to watch day three of the #sumo #basho live. So many good matches today. The last match was a hoot.
#Tamawashi is currently 3-0 along with my homies #Ura and #Ichiyamamoto
Now I shall head off to slumberland as I wait for day 4 :BlobCatSqueel: :BlobCatSqueel: :BlobCatSqueel: -
The #OrangePiRV2 RV2 is am interesting prospect. So far the actual hardware seems more than capable but the software does not seemed to be optimized or ready yet. Several programs will just kill a single core while the other 7 cores just be chilling.
Software storefronts are super slow if they can be installed. Installing #Flatpak or #Snaps is pointless as there is very little available and it all runs like butt.
Other weird quirks are things like the janky #Chromium only working within the #Gnome environment (the version cannot be updated or reinstalled from the repositories provided). Also it is slow AF and does the cpu core issue mentioned above.
Last little round ups: The preinstalled user cannot change their password; so just delete after you create your own. Currently cannot go into a #TTY by using the key shortcuts; ya just get a glitchy black screen with way too fast text popping up and then disappearing for 20 to 30 seconds. -
#KDEPlasma (x11 and Wayland) chuuuuuuuuug.
#LXQt ran fine had some inconsistent graphical issues. I will stick with #XFCE over this DE.
#JWM seemed fine. But I am not in the mood to set it up.
#Enlightenment installed but would not launch after boot. #Mate is “available” but wont install due to missing dependencies. -
In my "testing" #XFCE has been running very well with no noticeable issues. #Gnome looked good but ran slow and #LXDE had lots of glitches with the DE setup. I installed #JWM (have not tested) and plan to install #KDE to try out if available.
Web browsers are a very meh. #Dillo works okay, but is not great for "modern" websites. #Chromium (from Orange Pi) works okay but is very slow; standard Chromium is not available. #Epiphany was sooooo slow that is was not usable. #Konqueror installed but was missing dependencies to function. #Surf is working okay; good for basic sites but chugs on more demanding sites like Youtube.
Terminal apps all seem to be working fine. Simple apps like #GoodVibes and #Kpat work with out issues.
3D Games were not playable if they even loaded up. #Minetest opened but was like 1 frame per 3 seconds. #TuxCart installed but would not open.
So far on the #OrangePiRV2 the definitive winners are XFCE, Sakura (teminal), GoodVibes, Kpat, and #plank -
After many hours and sifting through #Apple tech support documents, I was able to downgrade my iphone from #ios26beta2 to bog standard 18.5.
I would have stayed on 26 if not for it breaking #MMS and #RCS texting. Apple not playing nice with #Android; who would have known?! 🤦 -
Status update: running gparted data recovery on the mini #Debian file server produced no results after 8 days. Now I am running #Testdisk on the mini server with one of the drives and #Photorec running on my main pc with the other drive.
Hopefully this will save a handful of my picture folders that I did not back up elsewhere.
Cross your fingers and wish me luck 🍀 -
More #sumo arrived! Now #Ura, #Takanosho, and #Atamifuji have entered my desk foray!
#rikishi #grandsumo -
I am still tinkering with the #MangoPiQuad. I think I got a good understanding of #JWM and #Compton. Also had to play with a bunch of web browsers to see what works best and is fully functional (so that I can #toot); so far #Epiphany has worked the best on this low powered machine (but just barely 😬).
-
If someone can look over my #JWM config and #Compton config, I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to set it up so that my web browsers and #Geany are always opaque while everything else has some level of transparency. Currently whatever is active is opaque and what is inactive has transparency. Here is the codeburg link to my files: https://codeberg.org/jlwthejobber/Config-Files.git
Thanks in advance. -
Here are how things are looking so far on the #JWM setup on the #mangopiquad.
I have to say, I have actually been enjoying this process.
