This weekend I did some tinkering with the 2015 #iMac.  Running #Sequoia via #OpencoreLegacyPatcher started to make the #Mac chug hard.

I attempted installing a few different #linux based distros but the ones I tried (that I was interested in) all failed/crashed after installing.

So I went with my favorite “newish” #macOS, Monterey.   Now all my old #intel macs run good ol’ Monty and I am very okay with that.

After many many many hours, both #Macbookpro now dual boots with a a “classic” OSX and a “modern” OSX.

MBP11 boots #Snow #MacOSXsnowleopard  and #macOS12.

MBP13 boots #macOSMavericks and macOS 12 (Monterey)

#OpencoreLegacyPatcher is f’n awesome.

One of my colleagues works remotely and used to do occasional testing on a #Mac. However the Mac he had was left lying around since it was stuck on 10.13 and hence has not been getting security updates since November 12, 2020 and has not even been usable with Vivaldi for a long while also.

We are sending him a newer Apple Silicon based Mac (since that would also allow easier testing of internal builds using iOS simulator) but in the mean time I pointed out that he could upgrade his current machine with #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher, despite Apple preventing upgraded via the regular method.

He went all the way from #macOS #HighSierra 10.13, right up to macOS 15 #Sequoia without any obvious issues. Once again, it is silly that Apple is letting these working machines just be wasted.

FWIW, this old Intel MacBook did get Safari updated yesterday, after using #OCLP to update to Ventura.

Had it been down to Apple, this machine could have been a botnet now for all they care. 😢

I updated the @Vivaldi page on "Future browser updates on macOS 10.15 (Catalina) being discontinued, due to lack of support from Apple".

We now list an additional option for users who find themselves in this unfortunate position: "OpenCore Legacy Patcher".

Spending an evening with an old computer isn't always fun. It can be hours and hours of installations, downloads and just waiting for stuff to happen.

My 2010 #MacbookAir needed partition resizing (for Haiku, fingers crossed) and then #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher to install #macOS monterey
Avoiding newer macos because of non existing USB1.1 for touchpad/keyboard.

And then Appstore only lets me download latest and not compatible Xcode. Always something...

Apple does not officially support my personal MacBook Pro anymore, so I am technically stuck on macOS Monterey (thanks to OpenCore Legacy Patcher I am able to run Sonoma but it is getting quite slow by now).
Thinking of completely ditching macOS on that device (since I have a work Mac anyways) and installing Linux instead 🤔

@risottobias This is the one thing I really dislike about #apple : quick/planned hardware #obsolesence.
They are doing rather good on #ios (way better than #android support) but this can be improved.
On #macos, #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher (#oclp ) proves hardware support is voluntarily removed with each new release.
On both sides, they can provide longer software support even if some new features are not available on older hardware. 1/

I have just updated my #MacPro 6,1 from #macOS #Monterey to #Ventura using #OpenCoreLegacyPatcher. And I must say it's really straight forward! It's like magic 🪄

Amazing how my vintage Mac Pro from 2013 stills up to date! 🎉

Now I can install the latest version of #Xcode ☺️
