I've been watching the Grand Sumo tourney in Nagoya, Japan. Always found it an interesting niche of Japanese culture. IDK, maybe it was cause I was an E. Honda player as a kid in the arcades back in the day, lol. Kinda crazy there's some sumo that are still doing it at 50, and beating kids more than half their age 😮 Some of the weight disparities are wild as well. Matches where the difference between sumo is more than *I* weigh. Also pretty cool to see some dudes from outside of Japan have taken it up (I think that's been a thing for a while but there's several of them now).

Watching via the MidnightSumo live streams on Twitch. Dude knows his stuff, pretty impressive.

They don't make it easy to follow who-is-who during the match, but it's over so fast you can at least see at the announcement.

Don't know why they don't use simple identifying of the competitors with colours or name-text overlays as the match starts.

You see nice competitors' summary cards with photos at the start, but then they cut to the ring and there are two guys who look nothing like the ones you just saw. Often they're in 'trunks' that are almost identical shades of purple.

Must say I enjoy seeing the Grand Sumo highlights shared on #NHK during the 15 day March tournament.

It's a cool sport, with matches often over in seconds and where going for even a minute would be quite unusual.

NHK could certainly improve their coverage with a tiny effort, but it's still enjoyable to watch
