Ich schau mir immer mal wieder gern die Preisentwicklung meiner aktuellen Spiele-NVMe SSD an. Ich hatte die "Samsung 9100 Pro 8TB" NVMe SSD im November letzten Jahres noch für 810€ gekauft und inzwischen wird das Ding nur noch wie pures Gold gehandelt. Seit ein paar Tagen steht die SSD nun schon bei über 1.800 Euro! Kranker Wahnsinn! 🤬 🤮

SDS-кластер, собранный на глазок и прошедший приёмочные тесты, вполне может проработать полгода без единой жалобы, а потом упереться в стену. Причина обычно в том, что при проектировании никто не подумал об эксплуатации на годы вперёд — не заложили рост по узлам, памяти или сети, и нагрузка уперлась в архитектурный лимит, который без остановки и миграции не раздвинуть. I've got an nvme SSD in a usb-c enclosure that's going read-only in the middle of rsyncing to it. btrfs on luks.
I suspect the SSD may be failing early, but I can't verify it. Nothing I've tried yet with SMART tooling shows any problems, and btrfs check doesn't reveal any problems either.
Anyone got a good process for making an SSD clearly demonstrate that it's failing? Must be possible to do from linux, and ideally would be acceptable proof of failure by HP for RMA purposes.
I don't need the data on the drive, I can reformat and repartition as needed to torture it into failing or whatever

Обзоров VPS на Хабре хватает, но почти все сделаны Windows-утилитами и сводятся к тому, какой диск показал «отличный результат». Мне же нужна была батарея, которую можно прогнать по SSH на любой машине, и понимание, что конкретно означает каждое число. Второй пункт оказался неожиданно объёмным. Я трижды получал красивые результаты, которые не имели отношения к тому, что я думал измерить: скорость оперативки вместо диска, кэш гипервизора вместо носителя, конфиг лимитера вместо производительности. Каждый раз цифры выглядели совершенно правдоподобно, и я бы их спокойно опубликовал. Поэтому в этой статье: сначала стенд и методика, потом грабли по ходу замера, потом результаты. Ну и длинный список оговорок в конце.

So I have "gaming" #laptop which came with 500 GB #nvme drive and space for other #HardDisk. I moved system (three partitions, /, /home and /opt which I somehow use like D drive on Windows :blobCat_giggle: ) to this nvme and put 500 GB #ssd drive from previous laptop in empty space. This ssd drive is used for #Steam library as a whole. And later I got 5 TB drive (not ssd) for birthday and it's also used for additional Steam library. And now it's almost half full.
What's wrong with me?

Using a Samsung 9100 Pro 8TB as my everyday gaming SSD is probably a bit overkill, especially inside an older AM4 PC without PCIe 5.0. Mine isn't really getting a lot of GBs written or even read, but it was the best NVMe drive I could find back in 2025. I still have 4.33TB of free space available. Still plenty of room to grow! 😎

Why can't a GPU just carry more HBM? Interposers max out in size, stacking 12 to 16 DRAM dies compounds yield losses, and every stack sits beside a kilowatt-class package that hates sharing heat. So capacity climbs in careful steps — 80 GB on the H100, 141 on the H200, 192 on the B200, 288 on Blackwell Ultra — while KV caches for long-context inference balloon past 40 GB per request.
That gap between what models demand and what packaging permits is reshaping server design. NVIDIA's Rubin platform treats CPU memory and HBM as one coherent pool. SanDisk and SK hynix are standardizing High Bandwidth Flash as a capacity tier under HBM, with first samples due this half. CXL 4.0 pooling hardware is landing in racks now.

Давно хотел провести эксперимент по установке SSD NVMe в ноутбуке без слота M.2, используя переходник miniPCI-E - NVMe, наконец-то дошли руки. Итак, имеем ноутбук ASUS K52F выпуска начала нулевых годов, чипсет Intel HM55 Express , процессор Intel Pentium P6200, 8Gb RAM DDR3 PC10600. Имеется слот miniPCI-E, в котором установлена карта Wi-Fi. Удаляем её и устанавливаем вот такой переходник.
