W połowie kwietnia górnicy pracujący w okolicach miasta Mogok w Mjanmie natknęli się na olbrzymi rubin o wadze 11 000 karatów (2,2 kg).
Eksperci podkreślają jego niezwykle intensywny, purpurowo-czerwony odcień, wysoką przezroczystość oraz silnie refleksyjną powierzchnię. Te cechy sprawiają, że jest on nie tylko rzadkością na skalę światową, ale także potencjalnie jednym z najdroższych rubinów, jakie kiedykolwiek wydobyto.Szacuje się, że wartość rynkowa takiego kamienia może sięgnąć wielu milionów dolarów, jednak dokładna wycena jeszcze nie została przeprowadzona.
Na razie nie wiadomo, jaka będzie przyszłość odkrytego rubinu: czy trafi na światowe aukcje, czy pozostanie w rękach państwa jako narodowy skarb.

Unter diesen sind auch zwei Kleinplaneten mit extrem weit hinausreichenden Umlaufbahnen.
