Ich schau mir immer mal wieder gern die Preisentwicklung meiner aktuellen Spiele-NVMe SSD an. Ich hatte die "Samsung 9100 Pro 8TB" NVMe SSD im November letzten Jahres noch für 810€ gekauft und inzwischen wird das Ding nur noch wie pures Gold gehandelt. Seit ein paar Tagen steht die SSD nun schon bei über 1.800 Euro! Kranker Wahnsinn! 🤬 🤮

Tried backing up my 100Gb ssd home directory in linux onto a HP usb thumb drive #hpx206c usb a/c and about 400 files were allegedly corrupted in the rsynch copy as evidenced by same write data etc. but different check sum. Is this normal for #ssd #flashdrive #thumbdrive #dataintegrity ?

I bought a 2 TB #Samsung portable #SSD last year for ~ 240€. Its current retail price, is quite literally double that. Almost 500€. Absolutely batshit insane.
There is no #inflation that makes prices double in a year. It's just the #datacenter apocalypse and the infinite #LLM circlejerk of the Big Seven.

The world’s first 1PB SSD could become a reality sooner than many people expect.
Kioxia and Sandisk have demonstrated next-generation QLC NAND with 2Tb per die and extremely high areal density. With enough NAND dies, the technology could theoretically enable a single SSD with around 1PB of capacity.
But reaching 1PB isn’t simply a matter of adding more flash. Packaging, controller design, power consumption, thermals, endurance, and data reliability all become much harder at this scale. A massive SSD also creates challenging failure and rebuild scenarios.
Still, the direction is clear: NAND density continues to rise, while AI and data-center workloads are creating demand for ever-larger local storage.
The 1PB SSD may sound crazy today—but the underlying NAND technology is already moving in that direction.

The world’s first 1PB SSD may be closer than it sounds.
Kioxia and Sandisk’s latest QLC NAND reaches 2Tb per die and 37.6 Gb/mm² density, making a roughly 1PB SSD technically achievable with about 4,096 dies.
But the NAND is only part of the challenge. Packaging, controllers, thermals, endurance, cost—and especially the huge failure/rebuild domain—still need to be solved.

I've got an nvme SSD in a usb-c enclosure that's going read-only in the middle of rsyncing to it. btrfs on luks.
I suspect the SSD may be failing early, but I can't verify it. Nothing I've tried yet with SMART tooling shows any problems, and btrfs check doesn't reveal any problems either.
Anyone got a good process for making an SSD clearly demonstrate that it's failing? Must be possible to do from linux, and ideally would be acceptable proof of failure by HP for RMA purposes.
I don't need the data on the drive, I can reformat and repartition as needed to torture it into failing or whatever
