#macos26tahoe — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #macos26tahoe, aggregated by home.social.

  1. Last night I had the 2011 #macbook pro running #MacOSXsnowleopard side by side next to the 2013 macbook pro running #Monterey. It was crazy seeing how much has changed but also how much stayed the same.

I like the #QOL improvements that #Apple has made to their OS (not including #MacOS26Tahoe) but I do miss the older #skeuomorphic and stylings of the earlier #OSX; it just had more character.

  2. We’ve been in squircle jail before

I’m not using macOS 26 Tahoe yet – hopefully I’ll never have to; 🤞 the next version of macOS is less of a dumpster fire, and I’ll just skip Tahoe entirely.

But, looking over other people’s shoulders, and listening to the groans and cries, I’m struck by something. We’ve been here before. Icon jail, I mean (“Squircle” jail specifically in Tahoe’s case):

  3. Avalonia gets ready for macOS Tahoe!

Avalonia is a very popular UI framework for .NET desktop applications that run on not only computers, but also phones and tablets. Avalonia is constantly improved to bring new features while ensuring that your Avalonia applications get enhanced performance across releases. macOS Tahoe brings the Liquid Glass design, along with new features for Macintosh users.

Now, Avalonia has just released a new version in the v11.x version series, and that is version 11.3.6. The following changes were made:

Out of all the above changes made to the Avalonia framework, two of them stands out for macOS support, because the macOS tray/menu icons scaling has been improved, ensuring that your applications look more awesome than before. Also, the SkiaSharp3 Metal interoperability signature has been changed, and Avalonia has been adapted to the new signature.

Both of those changes have made Avalonia ready for macOS Tahoe, as teased in a release post on Mastodon.

We are extremely grateful for their hard work at Avalonia for supporting macOS Tahoe.

To update your applications to support macOS Tahoe, update all your Avalonia NuGet packages to version 11.3.6 using either the package manager in your Visual Studio installation or the project files.

  8. So, I installed macOS 26 Tahoe in a VM in VirtualBuddy, and when I tried to create a Shortcut with an AI step, I was told Apple Intelligence was not available on this Mac. Say what now? It's a MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro and 32GB of RAM. 😠

Could this be a VM configuration issue? I only gave it access to 5 cores and 16GB of RAM.

EDIT: Apple Intelligence does not work at all in VMs.
