It's wet enough on the patio this morning that Oliver was drinking from the puddles. We've got an ultra thiccc marine layer in #Monterey #California which hopefully extends down to #BigSur to help douse the #TimberFire.
-
The #TimberFire down in #BigSur is putting smoke into our neighborhood here in #Monterey. I just closed all of our windows on the house after my wife woke me up to do it. Good thing we've got lots of hepa filters going in the house already to get rid of the little bit of smoke that made it inside. And I turned the portable AC in the bedroom on so we can keep sleeping in comfort.
There isn't any fire yet at the Ventana Wildlife Society's condor facility in Big Sur based on their cameras: https://www.ventanaws.org/bigsurroostcam.html
Nepenthe looks to be socked in with smoke and marine layer but no fire: https://www.phoenixshopbigsur.com/live-weather-cam
No aircraft are showing up on the ADS-B feeds so either the night flying helicopters went back to base at some point, they didn't have them up last night, or they're operating below the ridge tops.

#Monterey British #CarWeek #ClassicCars Triumph TR7, MG B and TA, Daimler 250. Lots more to come this week… #WeirdCarMastodon
-
Main focus of #Monterey British was #Jaguar, lots of lovely E-types. Also, great weather, nice fun crowd. Located at Carmel Valley Village. #ClassicCars #WeirdCarMastodon
-
#Monterey British also had #Hagerty journalist Jason #Cammisa bring his Rover SD1 to show. He borrowed my Elise for his video about Lotus a few years ago so it was good to get caught up. #ClassicCars #WeirdCarMastodon

#Monterey British event for #CarWeek today. Entered my #Lotus Elise and people amused themselves trying to get in and out of it for a photo. I amused myself trying to get in and out of a Caterham Seven. Nice customized Europa also in the Lotus section. #ClassicCars #WeirdcarMastodon

"'In an ideal world, we would have bike lanes with a physical barrier everywhere. That’s what’s needed. The reason more people don’t bike is primarily the fear of cars, and you can’t blame them.'” https://www.montereycountynow.com/news/cover/can-advocates-make-local-streets-safer-for-pedestrians-cyclists-and-drivers/article_5b81d56e-a2c0-4a96-beac-62ee7f601013.html

Exhilarating captain's log entry from Monterey Bay where the captain and passengers of Sanctuary Cruises captures incredible video of a pod of Bigg's killer whales hunting 15 dolphins. High wire acrobatics etc.
"Seeing a predation event of this scale is a stark reminder of the raw, trophic dynamics of Monterey Bay. While these encounters can be difficult to watch, they represent the natural ecological balance of a healthy, functioning marine sanctuary."

Doing the things I know for sure I’m going to miss a lot when I move. It was a long weekend - wellness break given at work :)

As #Monterey #CarWeek is coming up, the residents of Seaside CA (a city in the Monterey metro area) is asking their police department to hassle loud cars out of their city. They really, really hate the amount of cars that descend into what is otherwise a quiet coastal town every year.
My fellow car enthusiast friend put it this way: Imagine there’s a week-long tuba festival that comes into your town every year. During that week, thousands of people play the tuba on the streets all day, and late into the night. Would you like that?
Can’t really argue with that argument.

I shot a very well attended 4th of July Parade in Monterey, CA. I have some fun shots from the parade, but the ones I'm most pleased by are these face in the crowd shots I was able to get after the parade ended.
Every time I'm in a crowd, I try to get shots like this, but it's always hit or miss... mostly miss. This time, I got exceedingly lucky and very noticeable faces kept appearing out of the sea of humanity over and over again for me.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Workers United had a few major wins during the bargaining period:
FMLA: We removed exceptions so that all employees are covered creating easier qualifications for leave
Reproductive Loss Leave: Expanded to include sterilization and abortion; clarified coverage under CFRA for family-planning procedures
Bereavement Leave: Up to 5 paid days per event; expanded to include foster family, cousins, designated persons (tamily-like relations), and pets
Proud of my former coworkers
