Repaired this iMac from 2000! Had to take the speakers apart and replace the chemically degrading foam. Left speaker works great, right speaker still a bit of buzz sometimes. CD-ROM had to be disassembled, cleaned and repaired as well. Got it 100% working now! Diablo II is still fun!
Additionally I also have a cheapo SSD inside via a IDE to SATA adapter. It does make it blink question mark mac for about 10 seconds before it finds and boots but other than CD-ROM and CRT whine its a totally silent iMac.

Nochmal den alten superlangsamen #iMac 16,2 von der Schwiegermutter vorgeknöpft. Installiert und stabil ist er jetzt, aber es gibt für alles ein erstes mal und das ist jetzt ein System, das sich nach Shutdown und Poweroff wieder selbst einschaltet. Dogma has settled nicely into Linux Mint and has yet again saved himself from the scrap heap. He would freeze up regularly under Fedora and macOS anytime I tried to do anything video-related, but the problem has nearly vanished under Mint. Score one for older drivers, I suppose?

Reached out to Brock over at @everymac with a bit of a mystery. I purchased a G4 iMac back in '22 at the VCFMW. However, the model # seems to be fairly unique. It's an M6498 which is correct, but it's an EMC 1987 which Googling doesn't seem to pull back much. Plus it came standard with 512MB of RAM which was also not standard. I'm guessing a BTO, but maybe the fediverse has more insight? #mac #g4 #imac #apple
