  1. After my previous ramblings about OpenSuse, it's fair to note not all is that bad, as some of the ashes are swept away:

  2. After a great month on ChimeraLinux and a week updating and running Obelix, my NixOS KDE, it is now time for a closer look at Kalpa. I'll spend a later blogpost on how I got there and what has actually been picked up very well in that project. Back on a roll!
    #kalpa #opensuse #microos

  3. Another “State of the ” talk coming up at

    events.opensuse.org/conference

Don’t rightly know what the video setup is, but I’m pretty sure it will livestream

  4. @MsDropbear42 Updating a running system *will* pick up these new changes, it just *may* require a manual `transactional-update dup -i` to resolve a couple of the conflicts.

*Beta* will likely require a reinstall, because there's a big change coming, in the way works

  5. I created these backgrounds for @kalpa , an openSUSE Linux OS! I had some great fun creating these, in both dark and light versions in 5K, ultra-wide and vertical versions. So happy to see it in use and I hope this happy turtle brings joy to those who use it!

  6. Big Announcement!

Just updated the website kalpadesktop.org with the download links for the new installer for x86_64, there are an Online and Offline version for your needs.

Unfortunately, these new changes *may* cause some upgrade issues with existing installations, due to some new changes, that the zypper backend cannot resolve on it's own.

This isn't officially "Beta", but it's closer. Posts to follow describing the changes.

  7. Edit: This is apparently due to a new Kalpa theming. Hence it only affects Kalpa.

OK, this is strange. On my work laptop running openSUSE Kalpa (aka immutable Tumbleweed) the KDE window decorations are messed up.

The buttons to close or minimize the window are now on the left.
The buttons for the window menu or pinning a window to all virtual desktops are now on the right.

I do not find any setting in the KDE system settings that would change that.
Everything else is as it should be, i.e. no right-to-left language or anything else I can think of.

All other laptops running Tumbleweed seem to be unaffected.

    Any ideas, anyone?

  8. Hey folks, I just pushed a bunch of changes to that may, or may not cause your existing installs to do funny things. Not a *lot* I can do about that, other than to say I'm sorry, but I'm working towards being able to announce Beta. If you've got questions or problems, the best place to poke at me would be matrix.to/#/#kalpa:opensuse.org

  9. @Canageek Part of the issue is when people say , it's not particularly descriptive. They could be talking about , or , , or even some other variants, like or , none of which have to really be in agreement with each other, for something to exist within the larger project, or ship them.
