  1. Nothing is really 'wrong' with neoFetch.

The author of that software announced he was no longer working on it and pretty much disappeared. It works, but may not recognize distros that are newcomers and weren't programmed into the last release of neoFetch.

I do prefer fastFetch, as it is written in C, is slimmer and does, well... seem to be faster.

Debian Trixie has fastFetch instead of NeoFetch, for example.

  2. Almost complete with this "build" of an HP mini with Zorin OS.

Just need to copy the data from the customer's old Windows computer and then it will be ready.

Fastfetch was not in the repositories, probably due to Zorin being based on a slightly older Ubuntu LTS version.

Neofetch was there and helped me accomplish on screen what you are supposed to have in screenshots.

  4. Neofetch alternatives

The ones that I've tested and are easy to install are these three

    hyfetch
    screenfetch
    macchina
    fastfetch

These are easy to install and fun.
    I love hyfetch colour output!

    Raspberri Pi5 experience

    • neofetch is still alive on the SBC Pi5 distro
    • screenfetch install works
    • hyfetch is not in the standard repositories
    • I want hyfetch here too so I'll go to the home page
    • Github page
    • github.com/hykilpikonna/hyfetc
    • no install method for the Pi5 found yet
    • Source fetch then ./configure: make: make installI
    • I dont want to install a full gcc programming stack due to the fact that I am running on a microSD card. Those tend to slow down when a number of IOPs are requested and when the cache needs to be written to the card
    • fastfetch commands dont work in standard distro
    • the command add-apt-repository does not exist > I will check that out in MX Linux for the SBC Pi5

  6. Watching meltdown because , a fork of has flag colour sets as an entirely optional thing and that many distros have included it in their repos.

Hey Brian, no one is making you choose a pride colour scheme, or even use hyfetch, is still there. Let people have their thing. Didn't this guy used to be a libertarian?

  7. New Video is up! Neofetch has been archived, but the culture of sharing our terminal setups is more alive than ever.

In my latest video, I explore Hyfetch, a modern, community maintained fork that allows you to integrate your identity into the command line by overlaying pride flag gradients onto your system metadata.

After some tweaking, purging, and updating, I know have the Opi running #Debian #Trixie with the @tde Trinity desktop environment. It's running pretty snappy for most things; web browsing is really the only exception.

  16. of my 2011 running 13 Trixie, freshly upgraded from 12 Bookworm. Love this little tank of a laptop.

  17. @KmacNessa Attached is a screen capture of #neofetch :blobcatcoffee: The CPU/GPU/Memory are the notable pieces of hardware. I'll be good for many years to come. :blobcatcoffee:

As for the specs of your laptop, it should play just fine. My little laptop has similar specs, and it plays most modern games 'relatively' well. Sometimes all I gatta do is lower the visuals and we're running smooth as butter.

  18. Since I have been playing with #GnomeOS, I went back to my main distro (#Nobara) to change things up a bit on my desktop (aka tweak the top bar and dock).

I think I am gonna stay with a light themed desktop for awhile. In addition, I am trying to see if I can comfortably get away with a minimal doc; maybe eventually move to no dock. In my head, the idea of mono tasking seems like a noble effort.

Anywho, here is a quick screen grab of my Nobara Gnome DE setup along with the cursory #fastfetch info displayed like the good ol #Neofetch layout.

  19. Currently playing around with two thingies at the moment:
    1) Playing around with the #Cinnamon DE (plain Cinnamon, not the Ubuntu altered version) on the #OrangePiRV2. So far things are looking good AND Chromium works (at least on the #Wayland session; have not tested the #Xorg session).

    2) I found a spare external ssd drive that I am testing out #GnomeOS with my main PC. It looks interesting; some decisions they made seem a bit odd...

Oh here is a cursory screenshot of the Orange Pi running Cinnamon. Also, this was written on the Orange Pi too! (see if you can spot the typos in my screenshot)

  20. Oh, and here is my desktop setup (for now) with the obligatory #Neofetch info/stats.

    Repost: macrumors.com/2025/06/16/apple

The screenshot looks just like fastfetch + p10k mod with some pastel looking color scheme? Not sure what is changing haha

    My current terminal setup:
    > macOS terminal 2.14
    > omzsh (github.com/ohmyzsh/ohmyzsh)
    > p10k (github.com/romkatv/powerlevel1)
    > color themes (github.com/lysyi3m/macos-termi)

  22. Each time I ssh into my #selfhosting server, #neofetch runs. I use it as it gives useful system stats (free mem / disk usage, etc).

However I got sick of the OS logo on the left. A quick online search, a change to a file hidden somewhere in my home dir, and I now get a random ascii creature giving me a random quote.

The comments in the file are a bit misleading. What you need is

    image_source="$(fortune | cowsay -r -W 30)"

The *-r* does the random cartoon creature bit.

    Have fun 🤠

  23. @irfan wow thanks for that
    Actually I love
#fastfetch more than #neofetch , much faster, less dependencies. Not to say the latter is not actively maintained anymore. But I don't know it can only show what neofetch would show in the screen.

  24. I just knew before even trying that such an option would be available lol, I know #Linux/#FOSS devs too well - to those who've been reluctant to replace #Neofetch with #Fastfetch just bcos you prefer the shorter, simpler output of Neo rather than the busy defaults of Fastfetch, you could run the following to have Fastfetch display outputs similar to what Neofetch offers OOTB:

    fastfetch -c neofetch

Set an alias like the following, and you're golden:
    alias neofetch='fastfetch -c neofetch'

That way you could have the exact same behaviour as Neofetch, but with the instant response time of Fastfetch. You can now peacefully uninstall the long deprecated, Neofetch - RIP o7

So far it has been a pretty usable lil system. Web browsing is on par with old dial-up. Besides that, after an app opens they seem to be quite responsive/snappy.

Now I am glad I my MangoPi Quad as I do not think I would have looked into the Trinity DE.

I have also installed some fun stuff like:

  40. FastFetch - це альтернатива NeoFetch і ScreenFetch, але на відміну від них вона написана на C, а не Bash, тому набагато швидше працює і плюс має більший функціонал. Ця програма є кросплатформною і поширюється під MIT ліцензією.
