  1. It isn't everyday you can make a screenfetch like this.

And yes, I did need to modify the script to work with a system as old as this lol

  3. Slowly trying to get X up and running on this (yeah, I'll move to Wayland when something workable is available, watching CoW closely, but it's a way off daily driver status, so FVWM3 for now).

Right now it's fighting me, because I went the "light" option, opting to install what I needed rather than slimming down a full-fat OS.

Maybe once I'm out of work I might try NetBSD on this, but in the meantime I need Linux for Docker image compatibility.

I installed `xinit`, but now it complains it can't run in framebuffer mode. So now we wait for `raspberrypi-ui-mods` to install a truckload of deps.

In the meantime, obligatory #neofetch (actually #fastfetch). I managed to get the font size up to something readable too.

  5. I've confirmed it with the official Technologic Systems images, the one I grabbed is a Debian 12 image.

Debian 12 agrees with my Gentoo image, as does U-Boot.

`HW_OCOTP_CUST0` is what I need to change, I need to figure out how that's done (or even, if it can be done).

In any case, here's the obligatory #neofetch screenshot.

  7. What are #linux users using instead of #neofetch these days? Or do people overall still prefer that 5 year old utility? Only asking since my system has neofetch but I'm wondering if I should consider something different.

  8. Have you noticed that the #Neofetch / #Fastfetch #ASCIIArt logos have little subliminal messages in them? XD

    Debian's says "Met...gg" (good game)

    FreeBSD's says "yo" 😆

OpenBSD's says.. "FLIF" (or actually, "FL|F") and "JJFJ"

Ok, that one isn't as comprehensible. XD

  12. Nothing is really 'wrong' with neoFetch.

The author of that software announced he was no longer working on it and pretty much disappeared. It works, but may not recognize distros that are newcomers and weren't programmed into the last release of neoFetch.

I do prefer fastFetch, as it is written in C, is slimmer and does, well... seem to be faster.

Debian Trixie has fastFetch instead of NeoFetch, for example.

  14. I did some quick digging and 'screenfetch' is also available in Zorin (ubuntu) repositories and looks to do about the same thing without as many dependencies (compared to neofetch).

  15. Almost complete with this "build" of an HP mini with Zorin OS.

Just need to copy the data from the customer's old Windows computer and then it will be ready.

Fastfetch was not in the repositories, probably due to Zorin being based on a slightly older Ubuntu LTS version.

Neofetch was there and helped me accomplish on screen what you are supposed to have in screenshots.

  19. Neofetch alternatives

The ones that I've tested and are easy to install are these three

    hyfetch
    screenfetch
    macchina
    fastfetch

These are easy to install and fun.
    I love hyfetch colour output!

    Raspberri Pi5 experience

    • neofetch is still alive on the SBC Pi5 distro
    • screenfetch install works
    • hyfetch is not in the standard repositories
    • I want hyfetch here too so I'll go to the home page
    • Github page
    • github.com/hykilpikonna/hyfetc
    • no install method for the Pi5 found yet
    • Source fetch then ./configure: make: make installI
    • I dont want to install a full gcc programming stack due to the fact that I am running on a microSD card. Those tend to slow down when a number of IOPs are requested and when the cache needs to be written to the card
    • fastfetch commands dont work in standard distro
    • the command add-apt-repository does not exist > I will check that out in MX Linux for the SBC Pi5

Hey Brian, no one is making you choose a pride colour scheme, or even use hyfetch, is still there. Let people have their thing. Didn't this guy used to be a libertarian?

  27. While working on the #ebox, I was also toying around with the #orangepizero2w. After some tweaking, purging, and updating, I know have the Opi running #Debian #Trixie with the @tde Trinity desktop environment. It's running pretty snappy for most things; web browsing is really the only exception.

  28. Not too shabby for a couple of hours playin' around. I think I will stay on #q4os and #kdeplasma for awhile on this lil #ebox. Hopefully q4os will be updating to #Debain #Trixie soon 🤞

Here is the obligatory #Neofetch screenshot

Shout out to @somafm for providing me the background music to tool around on this lil pc.

  32. @KmacNessa Attached is a screen capture of #neofetch :blobcatcoffee: The CPU/GPU/Memory are the notable pieces of hardware. I'll be good for many years to come. :blobcatcoffee:

As for the specs of your laptop, it should play just fine. My little laptop has similar specs, and it plays most modern games 'relatively' well. Sometimes all I gatta do is lower the visuals and we're running smooth as butter.

  34. Since I have been playing with #GnomeOS, I went back to my main distro (#Nobara) to change things up a bit on my desktop (aka tweak the top bar and dock).

I think I am gonna stay with a light themed desktop for awhile. In addition, I am trying to see if I can comfortably get away with a minimal doc; maybe eventually move to no dock. In my head, the idea of mono tasking seems like a noble effort.

Anywho, here is a quick screen grab of my Nobara Gnome DE setup along with the cursory #fastfetch info displayed like the good ol #Neofetch layout.

  35. Currently playing around with two thingies at the moment:
    1) Playing around with the #Cinnamon DE (plain Cinnamon, not the Ubuntu altered version) on the #OrangePiRV2. So far things are looking good AND Chromium works (at least on the #Wayland session; have not tested the #Xorg session).

    2) I found a spare external ssd drive that I am testing out #GnomeOS with my main PC. It looks interesting; some decisions they made seem a bit odd...

Oh here is a cursory screenshot of the Orange Pi running Cinnamon. Also, this was written on the Orange Pi too! (see if you can spot the typos in my screenshot)

The screenshot looks just like fastfetch + p10k mod with some pastel looking color scheme? Not sure what is changing haha
