  1. A pound or so of fresh #figs just off two #trees in my #garden. This was only what I could reach casually with a stepladder. And I harvested about two pounds yesterday! Those got made into preserves and given to an appreciative neighbor. There would be even more if the past winter’s #climatechange cold snap had spared my biggest, most productive fig tree. Killed to the ground, but growing back.

This harvest is in the #solar oven for drying. First try on this so fingers crossed.

  2. Fig update: does not seem to be going that well. They were kept covered under a plastic bag and all leaves died and got eaten by mold and some of the twigs also got mold. Maybe that bag was a mistake. There is some root growth but very minimal. Potted them in soil, hoping at least some will survive 🤞

  3. A very good friend from up the road has just been visiting.

She likes our garden figs, so I was sent outside to get her some - and came back with two tubs full. Enough for her and for us to stew in blackcurrant juice.

I don't think I was out long enough for them to finish talking about me because I was sent back out to collect windfall apples!

It's extremely hot out there. Not nice at all.

  5. Italian figs: 240 cultivars and two DOP

Il common fig (ficus carica L.) is among the oldest fruit species in the Mediterranean basin and has been present in Italy for millennia, with particular roots in Southern Italy (Mazzeo et al., 2024; Petruccelli et al., 2025; Rodolfi et al., 2018).  Its …

  7. First #figs of the season!
I picked 7 but forgot to take a picture until after we had eaten 5 of them. 😋 So good!

  8. Figs. Current mass flow about 1 kg per day (trending upwards). Any suggestions for coping with this?
I know fig jam (w. chili, w. forest fruit, w. banana and rum,...), roasted figs + goat's cheese, foccaccia with figs+ham+mint, green figs in syrup (though I prefer to let them get ripe as long as the weather permits), figs with yoghurt, inundate the neighbours and figs for grabs.
I should still try tajine of lamb with figs. More suggestions would be welcome.

  9. I thought this one was growing leaves the other day- and here we are, first to the finish line for this group of fig cuttings. This one is Celeste and there are roots as well. This one arrived in the mail Feb 27th and it probably took me a few days to bag it up. It's crazy how fast some of them root. That's less than 20 days to roots and leaves for this one. I think one of my Campaniere figs may also have roots. These are so much fun to grow. #gardening #figs
