When you can’t think of anything else to talk about, bring up the weather. Today’s report says we’re in for six days of hot temperatures, but when I look at the extended forecast, I see nothing but heat all the way to the end — at least ten days. My guess is it’ll last straight through the summer. It always does.
These days we have air‑conditioning, so when it gets hot we just stay inside as much as possible. But sixty years ago, when AC wasn’t common, people spent more time outdoors simply because it was cooler out there than inside. At least in the South. Here in Louisiana, where the heat comes with a side of humidity, working outside can feel like you’re slowly melting.
Lately I’ve been living in gym shorts and a T‑shirt unless I’m doing yard work or heading out somewhere. If I’m leaving the house, I get all duded up and presentable.
Okay, I really don’t have much this morning, so I’m going to cut this short. Have a wonderful day.

Heute hab ich mich nach zwei Wochen Zwangspause endlich mal wieder aufs Pedelec getraut und mich 15 Km durch die Hood schieben lassen, Beine nur mitbewegt.
Die kleinen Bäche bei uns sind trocken oder fast trocken.
Dann Wocheneinkauf, mehr auf den Einkaufswagen gestützt als ihn geschoben. War froh, als ich wieder auf dem Pedelec sass.
Aber ich bin wieder mobil! Und meine Hüfte spielt mit.

I used to think I had obsessive–compulsive disorder — self‑diagnosed, of course — and if you could’ve seen how tightly I kept the house and yard in those days, you’d probably agree. Then you’d take one look at my office today and understand exactly what I mean. The contrast is almost comical.
I’m not a psychiatrist or a psychologist, but I’ve always believed OCD is an anxiety‑driven disorder. It’s built around obsessions — intrusive thoughts that get stuck in your mind like a loop that refuses to move on. I used to describe it as a broken record that won’t skip to the next track. That loop creates a kind of pressure, a compulsion to fix whatever problem your mind has latched onto right now.
In a strange way, that can feel like an advantage. When you have the means to address the problem immediately, you get things done — fast. But when you don’t, you just spiral through the loop, obsessing over something you can’t do anything about in that moment. The feeling hangs on until you either solve the problem or another thought finally pushes its way in.
People sometimes ask, “Why not just think of something else?” But that’s the thing — you can’t. The loop doesn’t let go just because you want it to. So instead of moving on, you end up figuratively curling into a little ball around that one big thought, stuck until it decides to release you.
A perfect catalyst for getting launched into “OCD land” is receiving an important letter on a Saturday — something major you need to handle, but nothing you can do until Monday. The mind grabs hold, the loop starts spinning, and you’re left waiting, thinking, and rethinking until the world finally opens back up.

From one of the distant animals came a plaintive call, a high, haunting note as inscrutable as the animals' destination. One of the geese put his head down, swearing softly.
