Fig tree update: we definitely had some transplant shock. I didn't take a picture the day after planting when it kinda looked dead, but I gave it a burlap windbreak, more water and a bit of fertilizer with kelp (since that helps with transplant shock). It's been bouncing back a fair bit.
I'm not sure if I should cut off the leaves that are kinda crunchy. I thought that I'd definitely have to, but they're looking better than they were, so I'm not sure.

First stage of fig tree planting: complete.
I dug a hole (with a little help from my kiddo), put the tree in it, backfilled and did some initial watering and added mulch.
Next phase is to build a small fence around it to protect it from the local critters.

My baby fig tree arrived! It's a Chicago Hardy fig, which can apparently survive in my zone, so I'm giving it a try.
I've got to get a little deer- and vole-proof fencing material and hopefully we'll have some good weather this weekend so we can plant it.
Some of the leaves have some brown spots, but hopefully it's okay.
