She asked if I'm open to doing a brief presentation/mini workshop for our neighbourhood community in early June. I've agreed to teach a free frugal gardening mini workshop & will give away some free supplies for newbies to get started well. I pitched starting a neighbourhood seeds sharing library too because many people avoid the downtown area so they don't visit Victoria Seed Library, which is in the Central Victoria public library. She's keen on having a smaller community seeds library & is working on writing a community grant for that & for us to do more neighbourhood community building work.
It's wonderful to be approached by a neighbour, who is wanting to actively collaborate on closer community building, right in our 'hood. Community grassroots collaborations sparks joy for me 😃💗

Yesterday was the first day of early voting for the 2026 primary. See first graphic. 134 ballots were cast.
We need some historical context. See the second graphic...early voting two years ago in the 2024 primary race...which was a presidential-year election cycle. 89 ballots were cast.
50% greater turnout on day one...and 2026 is a mid-term year?!
This is a significant indicator of a more active, engaged electorate!

Downtown #VictoriaBC will be filled with music, colour and tradition on April 11 as the Victoria #BengaliCulturalSociety hosts its first outdoor celebration of #PohelaBoishakh - the #Bengali #NewYear. The #FreeEvent, set for #CentennialSquare at noon, marks a milestone for the local Bengali community, bringing one of its most recognized #cultural traditions into the public square. For the first time in Victoria, organizers will stage the #MongolShobhajatra -a “parade of well-being” recognized by #UNESCO. The procession will feature large, handcrafted masks and vibrant artistic structures, accompanied by drumming and music symbolizing #peace and #unity.
The parade is expected to begin around 1 p.m. The celebration will also include live Bengali music and dance performances, a food fair showcasing #SouthAsian cuisine, and vendor stalls offering traditional clothing and handmade goods.
