Ok so. Been using #RSS readers for a long time. Mostly #Thunderbird and some #FOSS Android apps.
Annoying to me has always been that the two don't talk to each other, and some QoL features missing. So now I am exploring #NewsBlur and #InoReader after reading that Pluralistic article. So far so good.
WHICH IS YOUR RSS READER OF CHOICE? Must work on Android & sync to an interface I can access through a browser.

Ayer salió la versión 23.2 de LineageOS para mi smartphone, que corresponde a la versión Android 16 QPR2, y he de decir que estoy impresionada. Ya estaba un poco cansada de la misma interfaz de usuario que teníamos desde LOS 19, y el cambio me gustó bastante, incluso diría que está preciosa la nueva UI.

Making an icon-pack is pretty cool, and making it open-source is even cooler. Like, there are 116 Arcticons contributors in total!
In the past year, I did some tinkering and made a fully FOSS version of Candybar (a dashboard to create icon packs with), compatible with F-Droid.
So if you ever thought about creating an icon-pack, it's super easy now!

Update: I'm not sure what happened, but Messages just tossed a bunch of my recent SMS messages. People were telling me they were texting me, and I wasn't getting anything. I went back to QUIK, and I can see that I received a bunch of messages, but they're all blank. YEOUCH. Bad. D:

2. Streetcomplete and #Openstreetmaps
On the topic of #geolocation , there's another FOSS project that relies on community submissions to build a privacy preserving map
let's face it, Google Maps is the most solid, polished and convenient maps app out there, it offers detailed business listings, phone numbers, open hours, photos and reviews, Streetview (which OSM lacks), live traffic, routing algorithms with turn by turn navigation.. Etc.
But as it's the case with proprietary software, convenience comes at a cost, a cost that no one can afford, loss of privacy.
Most people fail to recognize how sensitive location data is, how it's used against them and how it can be abused in the future.
if I ask.. where were you on February 9, 2012, at 3 o'clock? you have no clue, you can't even remember what you had for dinner last night! me too :-) our brains can't recall events with time and location with such great precision, if you can.. you must be Charles Xavier from X-Men :-P
But you know who can remember? Google. the Ad company profiles individuals by tracking queries, routes, and interactions, it records your movements by a feature called location history which is turned on by default, even when you don't use the app, your movements are still logged, heck.. even if you turn off location history altogether, Google keeps on tracking you.. this should tell you how much valuable location data is for E-Corp, where you work or study, what you're planning to buy, where you go for entrainment.. etc. all used to create a profile so that the surveillance machine can target you with ads..
The brightside is that we don't have to use a surveillance tool like Google Maps, OrganicMaps is a free and open source software that respects your privacy, does not collect or transmit your location, search history, or usage data and it encourages you to use it offline by letting you know that you have to download maps for your area.
Organic Maps uses OpenStreeMaps which is also free software, but as I mentioned it's not as rich as Google Maps in terms of data. :-(
Which brings us to Streetcomplete, a FOSS android app designed to make contributing to OpenStreetMap easy. It's really like a real life game and I find it fun, It uses a simple question and answer interface to gather missing OpenStreeMaps details like: surface types of paths, opening hours of shops, speed limits.. etc
Submitted data will appear on OpenStreeMaps, so all users of apps like @organicmaps and @CoMaps can benefit from :-)

RSS reader #Flym is dead 😢 Didn't use it any-more since recently, but it's end is a loss for the FOSS Android ecosystem.
I think it would've been great to try and contest this approach/'news' labelling by Google, but understand the potential effort. Many thanks to all those that contributed to the app! 🙏

why people are so blind about #corporations, #companies? like the only thing they care about is making money. #microsoft, discord, #youtube, #unity. "they have to make money, it's okay they add ads and payed features". are people just okay when they're treated as living moneybags? i use #linux and own my computer. i use #firefox and own my internet serfing. i use #foss #androidrom and own my phone. #opensource is a thing! people make software to help others. if you WANT to thank, you can donate.

@jonah Great to see that you touched on the #LinuxMobile option. I'm daily driving #postmarketOS on my #Librem5 and it's good enough to do most of what I need - the only thing does not work is recording sound in videos. Even running #FOSS Android apps using #Fdroid, #Obtainium, etc. on #Waydroid works, although the #LibertyPhone with more RAM and storage is better suited for it.
There's also the #FLX1 (runs #Droidian-based #FuriOS) which comes at a more affordable price, and Android app compatibility set up out of the box. I think that is more 'normie'-friendly and has decent specs overall compared to true Linux phones. Camera quality is as good as Android as it uses Android kernel and drivers.

I am far more annoyed about #boxcryptor closing up shop than I thought I would be. I need another app (ideally FOSS) that lets me "share" a file to it to be encrypted and put in a storage area. That was the best part of it! #MEGA is what I am using in the meantime but that is not encrypting files, just the cloud space. #encryption #foss #android #windows #privacy

Ich überlege mir einen E-Scooter zu kaufen.
Laut unterschiedlicher Bewertungen steht Segway ganz gut da, doch wie sieht es mit der Software aus?
Anscheinend kann man diese Scooter auch ohne Smartphone verwenden, doch um Updates zu machen etc. ist es zu empfehlen. Ich nutze GrapheneOS mit Sandboxed Google Play, daher sollte die App verfügbar sein, doch läuft sie auch richtig?Nutzt jemand GrapheneOS und eine App für E-Scooter und kann mir von Erfahrungen berichten?
Gibt es alternative bzw. open source Apps?

Die App von #WetterOnline war in den Schlagzeilen, da Datenhändler u. a. durch diese an detaillierte Standortverläufe von Benutzenden kamen.
Auch in der Bezahlversion, die ich besitze, waren Datentracker aktiv.
Ich konnte zwar vieles mit #RethinkDNS abblocken, aber bin jetzt doch gewechselt.#BreezyWeather und #DWD #WarnWetter (Bezahlversion) haben sie bei mir ersetzt.
Das meiste macht Breezy Weather schon super. Dort fehlt nur die Wetterkarte, die WarnWetter bietet.

Just be aware that using #OSM / #OpenStreetMap instead of #Google #Maps, doesn't necessarily mean using openstreetmap.org There are many great mapping services built using OSM data, which may suit your needs better. For example #OrganicMaps ( @organicmaps ) is a fabulous #FOSS #Android app that uses OSM data to give a #GoogleMaps like experience on mobile (including #LinuxMobile !)
Oh, and if you host your email somewhere else, #NextcloudMail can be a very nice way to access it.

Viele android Einstellungen sind nur umständlich zu erreichen z. B. schalte ich regelmäßig das private DNS um oder stelle das Gerät für Meetings besonders ein, das ist immer eine wüste Klickerei. Um das zu automatisieren nutze ich seit einiger Zeit Klick'r, damit lassen sich Kaskaden von touchevents speichern und automatisiert abrufen.
