  1. Update: The actual trigger

After digging a little deeper, it turns out that the #FDroid version of #Joplin was not the official Android release maintained by Joplin’s maintainer, @laurent22.

The F-Droid build was maintained by muelli, who apparently released Joplin 3.7.2 prematurely. That is what triggered my little sync-update circus in the first place.

That release has since been withdrawn. F-Droid is now back to Joplin 3.6.21 as its latest version, which also matches the version available through the official Joplin website’s alternative Android downloads.

    Lesson learned.

Since my shared sync target has already been migrated to the 3.7 format, I’m keeping desktop, tablet, and phone on compatible versions for now. Downgrading again would just mean unnecessarily poking around in sync data and backups.

    So, going forward:

    • No more Joplin from #FDroid
    • Instead, I’ll use #Obtainium to track the official alternative-release channel from @laurent22
    • Once #CachyOS and Android officially ship Joplin 3.7+, I’ll switch back to the regular package sources

Well. That is what happens when an unofficial build deploys a new sync format before the official release channels catch up.

  2. Hi @CoMaps.
I’m unable to install CoMaps from Codeberg using Obtainium on GrapheneOS.

Obtainium correctly detects `CoMaps-26080703-main-release.apk`, but the download repeatedly fails because the connection is interrupted. The repository URL and APK filter appear to be correct.

Is this a known issue with the Codeberg release download, or is a different Obtainium configuration required?

  4. I have moved all my repositories away from #Codeberg.

    This includes #Phandroid.
The cool part: For Fdroid-users (and similar stores) this is fully transparent. You don't need to do anything.

Only #Obtainium users that used the Codeberg repository directly need to adjust their settings manually.
The old Codeberg page tells you what to do.

The new home of Phandroid is code.umrath.dev/thoralf/Phandr .
I'm quite pleased how the process turned out and that most users won't notice the change.

  10. I did the math, and I've been using GrapheneOS for a little over two years. I know there are many who have used it longer.

It's been a really positive experience. There are a lot of great open source apps out there. I don't need Google Play Services.

I use Obtainium to update my 45 phone apps. Most of these app projects are posted on GitHub, Codeberg, or F-Droid.

I think this ecosystem will continue to grow. We don't need Google Play Store.

  12. Z lekkim opóźnieniem, ale #grapheneos zainstalowany na #pixel9a 👍

Instalacja błyskawiczna, a teraz zabawa z konfiguracją aplikacji.

Sam szukałem tych informacji, więc dla następnych szukających:

To umiejętność kwestionowania starych dogmatów i świadomego zarządzania zaufaniem. Dlatego w kolejnym artykule wsadzam kij w mrowisko.

Tytuł: „Ewolucja zaufania. Dlaczego czas F-Droida mija”.

  21. Hi everyone! 👋 I know it's been a while since I was last here, but I had a very specific reason for it. I've spent the last few months with my small team intensely developing a project I mentioned to you once before. Every moment of my inactivity here was simply coding, designing the architecture, and endlessly solving problems :heart_cybre:

Today, I am proud to announce - LibreConnect has moved past the phase of vague plans and become a fully functional app! :flan_hurrah:

We managed to deliver what was absolutely most important to us - an ecosystem connecting your 💻 computer and 📱 smartphone that respects your privacy 100%. Zero external clouds and hidden telemetry. Everything is based exclusively on a direct P2P connection within your local network and strong E2E encryption 🔐

So, what can our app actually do?
    - Virtual camera and microphone from your phone :blobcatcamera:
    - Mobile device file manager right from your PC 📁
    - Notification and clipboard synchronization 📋
    - Receiving and sending SMS/MMS from your computer 💬
    - Two-way media playback control 🎵
    - Remote keyboard and presentation control from your phone :ablobcatbongokeyboard:
    - Finding your phone by triggering a loud alarm (overriding silent mode) 🚨
    - And a few other minor conveniences :sparkles_fiery:

We also made sure the project is truly cross-platform. LibreConnect runs natively on :linux: Linux, :apple_inc: macOS, :windows: Windows, and :robot_3: Android. It's worth mentioning that the app isn't limited to just x86_64 architecture - we support ARM64 as well! To make updates easier, we've set up our own F-Droid repository, along with native packages for Linux package managers (APT, DNF, Pacman) :fdroid: :archlinux:

The code is 100% open-source under the GNU GPL v3.0 license :github: However, I have to be honest - the project is still very young. The app is highly usable, but it still requires optimization, might have some silly bugs, and can occasionally be unstable 🐛

That's why we need you so much right now. For the continued development of this app to make any sense, we need a small but engaged user base. I encourage you to install it, test it out, and report bugs, and for those interested - to join the project as contributors (you'll find a CONTRIBUTING.md in the repo) 🤝

If you like our vision, leaving a star ⭐ on our GitHub repository is the form of support we would appreciate the most. It's these stars that will allow us to take the project out into the world! Because of this, for the next few days, my activity here will focus mainly on promoting the app and its features - we need your help to build the right momentum. Thank you in advance for your support! :blobheartcat:

This works by tracking flock camera's used for state surveillance and by the authoritarian police state.

You can install the app for free on android devices via the #obtainium and the #github link to deflock-app

@dataparty should take note on how they offer their app for #free 🤑🤢🤮

  30. @mathzy im sorry that it sounds so naive, but i don't really undeetsand the added value (unless you dont select #fdroid as a source?).

Also, you then need to transition by uninstalling and reinstallings apps via #obtainium then?

  32. The latest version of K-9 Mail (18.0) is as broken as version 17.0 and 17.1 are.
While the 17.x versions just crashed after showing the incoming mailbox version 18.0 is showing "offline" at the same time f-droid, obtainium, nextcloud notes and mastodon ☺ work fine.
Does K-9 Mail in these versions need access to Google or a Google account ?
Going again back to 16.1 and looking for a different E-Mail client on Android.

  33. ScenePeek is finally on fosstodon! It's an IMDB FOSS alternative for TheMovieDB and Seerr to help you discover movies and tv shows, manage your seerr instance and many more.

The app is currently available on playstore, github and obtainium for android and on testflight for iOS. It will soon be released on F-Droid as well.

Check out the app's website! scenepeek.app

Maybe there is another solution that we're not aware of?
