I had simply more luck 😉 or did something different. Installation and running debian on different machines, new and old ones, from Dell (Desktops and Laptops), Lenovo (Desktops and Laptops), intel nuc (Desktop) and Terra (Laptop), Razer (Laptop) was without any problems.

Last year I got a #ThinkPad to replace my dead #XPS. I got it on sale for a specific configuration that included only about 500GB #SSD. I had been thinking about getting a larger drive. Last time I looked a Samsung 990 was a decent choice at a decent price.
$800 for 4TB right now.
I hate, and I mean hate, the way #LLM commercialization has killed the personal and professional do-it-yourself hardware area. Hate it. Such waste for no good reason.

The #XPS machines from that era were incredible and they have worked awesomely with #Linux. I cannot say the same for the newer XPS models unfortunately.
Due to the constant issues with Ubuntu on the newer Dell laptops I this time went for a #Lenovo, a #ThinkPad #X9 14" to be exact.

@derStandard I didn’t know #XPS was retired 🤔 I’m still using a 2014 model. Powerful. Had to replace the battery. I’m not a big fan of #Dell though. I believe their distribution center in Europe is in Germany? When I tried to replace mine, which was delivered with wrong keyboard layout, they refused and were in fact very rude. I decided to never buy a Dell again 🥳 but glad they’re not pushing #AI. Isn’t this relevant to windows only in any case, ie their shitty Windows AI APIs? I would like better hardware support for local ai, if that was an option (avoiding using proprietary models).
