  1. So maybe someone on fedi can help me here, but after updating my #ThinkPad #T14 #BIOS to 1.17, #fedora can no longer #suspend normally and freezes and requires a hard power-off each time. I tried some #grub stuff, many suggested fixes I found on the internet and a newer kernel (6.18 instead of 6.17) but nothing worked. So I think it may be a #Lenovo issue.

    # sudo mokutil --set-sbat-policy delete

  3. @cks

I was asking about a preset, though.

Disabling is definitely insufficient, because usually installation/upgrade scripts reset the enable/disable state to whatever is preset, and sometimes the default preset state in turn is to be enabled.

On #Fedora, #firewalld is explicitly preset to enabled in 90-default.preset because it is a 'default service'. You need to counter this with a higher-priority-than-90 preset that disables it.

  9. If anyone, using Fedora Linux 42, has issues with OBS-Studio and the Virtual-Camera mode:

That's because of an incompatibility between OBS-Studio 31.0 and the v4l2loopback Kernel module in version 0.14.0.

The fix for that is in obs 31.0.3, which is on the way from testing to stable right now. Should be offered as an RPM update within the next days.

  11. I am testing 38 . I followed the wiki on how to set up , but it doesn't work (switching input method is a no-op and typing just types English).

I tried the same thing on Fedora 37 with the same results, and Fedora 36 didn't work at the time either.

I've asked in their forums and plenty of places, and never found a solution.

This is the third major release where following the instructions to set up an input method doesn't work.

  12. With Allison, I presented at FOSDEM how we can combine UKI, composefs and containers to build a fully signed boot chain. The slides and the recording are now available: fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event

This is how we are planning to bring boot chain integrity to Bootable Containers.

This is a follow up on the initial work that we presented last year at @allsystemsgo: cfp.all-systems-go.io/all-syst

    Was willst du denn wissen?

  16. Introducing Fedora Atomic Desktops

    fedoramagazine.org/introducing

Personally, I think that such atomic desktop distributions are the future of Desktop Linux.

I found those much more stable and user friendly in terms of system upgrade time and overall user experience. I've recommended Fedora Silverblue in particular to a number of my friends and they were totally satisfied with it.

  17. Oh, #fedora #Silverblue "and friends" is now rebranded to fedora Atomic Desktops which, yes, is a much better name to gather them all!

@fedora uses #FedoraAtomic as the hashtag associated with it, although I find #AtomicDesktop almost even more appealing -- only making me ask, when do we get #MolecularDesktop :-p

Upside about FedoraAtomic is ofc that there's no confusion as to whether to use singular or plural form and it brands it with fedora.

  18. Upgrading Fedora on my home desktop PC last night was a bit more exciting than usual. It's a bit of a Ship of Theseus PC and has gone through several hardware upgrades and many, many incremental distro upgrades since the last clean install, which appears to have been Fedora 31 from way back in 2019. These upgrades have generally gone smoothly, but after running the upgrade from Fedora 42 to 43 I was left with a computer where GDM would crash on startup, leaving me with an unresponsive black screen instead of a login prompt.

Fortunately a bit of searching led me to the root cause and the fix, and I was able to SSH in and get the machine working again. It's a bit of a corner case that only affects machines that were originally running Fedora 35 or older, and somehow missed the migration to authselect that should have happened automatically when upgrading to Fedora 36: discussion.fedoraproject.org/t

  19. The mainline-wo-mergew copr of the #kernel vanilla repositories[1] for #Fedora #Linux now ship 6.12 pre-releases that have the #BPF extensible scheduler class aka #sched_ext"[2] enabled, just like Fedora Rawhide will do with the next push of a new #LinuxKernel.

Many thx to Jose Fernandez for realizing this![3]

  20. @KekunPlazas That's funny, because 4 years ago I wrote this forum thread about the exact same question, around the same set of problems: discussion.fedoraproject.org/t

I think filing the issue in Mesa is the answer; even if Mesa does the drivers in the kernel, they are the same people and they probably use the Mesa bug tracker for everything related to drivers. If it's not the right place, then I guess the #Mesa3D / #Mesa folks will be able to direct you, unless they're from Mesa in Arizona.

  21. Hey @fedora,

are there any plans to release the #Vagrant box for #Fedora42 to app.vagrantup.com?

There is already a box available on the Fedora server, but without metadata (which makes updates hard...).

    download.fedoraproject.org/pub

(I know Vagrant is no longer used widely and Hashicorp messed up with the whole licensing trouble, but having an existing box available easiy would really be appreciated nontheless...)

    Have a nice day, everyone!
