  1. #Sandogasa update - now integrating our standalone tools we use for @centos #CentOSHyperscale work, as well as a long-overdue revamp of #ebranch for those who often backport large package sets from @fedora to #EPEL !

  2. @almalinux got to finally build #Emacs v30.2 for #AlmaLinux9 rather than removing broken feature by feature from config for v27.2 (released five years ago this month). Too used to #TreeSitter and #LSP for a functional editor nowadays. Would it be #ELRepo or #epel if you want it shared?

  3. Ok since I'm already half doing it ANYWAY I pose this question:

Should I take over ulogd package maintainer in fedora and possibly epel?

If it's just me and my epel-missing-pieces copr repos because I'm the only one using it basically, I'm content.

If there's anyone else that wants / needs it (and lets be fair if you are using it you are probably doing your own firewalling and not mucking with firewalld, etc. Side note: man do I not like firewalld) I'll go and poke at picking it back up.

    Anyone got opinions?

  4. Grandi novità per gli utenti AlmaLinux: il repository CRB è ora abilitato di default! Questo significa meno errori di dipendenza e installazioni EPEL più fluide. Scopri cosa comporta questo cambiamento e come influenzerà la versione 10.1. #AlmaLinux #CRB #EPEL #LinuxEnterprise #Linux

  5. AlmaLinux 10 enables the CRB repo by default, cutting dependency errors and smoothing EPEL installs ahead of the AlmaLinux 10.1 release.

  6. From : @carlwgeorge talked about how minor versions work in everybody's favorite extra package repo, EPEL.

  7. Even though EPEL is primarily used downstream by RHEL, @centos, @rockylinux, and @almalinux, it's actually part of the Fedora Project.

If you benefit from these packages, especially for your day job, consider contributing through package maintenance!

  8. Version 4.9.0 of is now available. Among others it adds:
    - exporter
    - more efficient file/directory monitoring on
    - audit source

    Packages for / / / & are available.

  9. Also users out there should be aware that @fedora 42+ and EL10 based distributions such as @centos Stream 10 and RHEL10 no longer have "non-system" (21) versions of java. But the good news is you can now easily install @eclipseadoptium via e.g. to install Temurin JDK8:

    # For CS10/Fedora # dnf install epel-release
    # RHEL10 # rpm -ivh dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/
    dnf install -y adoptium-temurin-java-repository
    dnf --enablerepo=adoptium-temurin-java-repository install temurin-8-jdk

  10. @carlwgeorge

Congrats; also for making things so important that RH now hand-picks stuff from there to ship it directly.

/me meanwhile still remembers sitting in a meeting room in Bosten with some RH managers that were a bit worried about this EPEL stuff we were starting…

'"Starting now, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) extensions repository addresses the evolving needs of RHEL users by providing a trusted and reliable source of validated software content. […] Initially, we've hand-picked popular content from Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (#EPEL), and we'll be evaluating additional sources of content in the future. "'

  11. EPEL 10 launched a little over five months ago. Today, RHEL 10 was released. In that time EPEL 10 has grown to 17,756 packages (from 5,451 source packages) built by 249 different Fedora packagers. 📦🎉🤩

  12. We are sorry to inform you that your proposal, "How to create an #RPM Declarative Buildsystem to reduce boilerplate (and save the planet)", was not accepted.

We are sorry to inform you that your proposal, "The state of #Fedora, #EPEL, and #CentOS #Python RPM packaging in 2025", was not accepted.

That's... unfortunate. I wonder what kind of talks were accepted for Flock this year.

  13. The March is now available on-line:

    * Test syslog-ng on 10!

    * Collecting logs centrally using the syslog-ng Agent

    * syslog-ng OSE 4.8.1 is now in EPEL 10, quick fix for

    syslog-ng.com/community/b/blog

  14. syslog-ng 4.8.1 is now available in 10, so you do not have to use the testing repository anymore. Thanks everyone for the feedback!
However, support for 7+ is broken in this release, as some of you reported. Quick fix: syslog-ng.com/community/b/blog

  15. In case you're still building packages or something similar for EL7 distributions, you might run into errors if you use the #EPEL repositories.

Enterprise #Linux 7 distributions include RHEL7 and CentOS7 - both are officially EOL. Red Hat however gives extended support for #RHEL 7 until 2028.

This also means you might have to continue maintain packages for EL7. This leads to fixing #CICD pipelines, requiring (now empty) EPEL repositories for dependent packages.

  16. You may have seen that we're building 10 for x86_64_v2 as a separate build, while the main x86 build moves on to requiring the x86_64 v3 feature set - following RHEL 10.

If the x86_64_v2 build is important to you, do you also want or need built for x86_64 v2? If so, please let us know in the ALESCo RFC: github.com/AlmaLinux/ALESCo/pu

  17. To the person asking for the #Evolution #email client for #CentOS_Stream 10 - I just checked with #ebranch and there are only 9 packages needed, so I'll try and get it into either @fedora #EPEL or if there are conflicting dependencies, into the @gnome repo we're currently incubating in the #HyperscaleSIG

  18. Look, 8 is covered too: bodhi.fedoraproject.org/update -- as always, don't forget to _vote_ if the update works!

  19. On the other hand, is seeing updates across EPEL 8 9 and 10. First one is 9 just because. Please test and vote:

  22. Last December, I added support for 10 in my unofficial Git snapshot repository. This week, I call for the official syslog-ng EPEL 10 package.

  23. Anyone having an idea how to get #MP4 playback working in #LibreWolf on #rhel10 beta?

I have a strong hunch it's related to ffmpeg ... librewolf complains about NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_FATAL_ERR and Couldn't open avcodec:. I tested #rpmfusion on an AlmaLinux 9 box, and it works fine there with the same kind of packages installed there - but ffmpeg seems to be crux anyhow.

I do have the #oneplay codec pack from #fluendo installed as well, to no avail.

  24. 🐧 Day 1 🐧

Shout-out to our upstreams and friends, CentOS, @fedora@fosstodon, and !

Thank you all for providing a home for the community for decades and playing a huge part in our success here at . 🙏

  25. Also, with the release of wslu 4.1.4, we have updated the supported versions:

    - CentOS Stream 9/10
    - EPEL 8-10
    - Fedora 39-41
    - RHEL 8-9

All of them support both arm64 and amd64 architecture except RHEL 8 since it seems to be broken.

  26. Wow! We disabled 7 support in syslog-ng beginning this year. Today I realized that @fedora still has 6 packages :-) They will be deleted in 122 days. The last syslog-ng version supporting 6 was 3.26. Mirror it if you still need it anywhere! I'll not...

  27. Finally found someone that officially maintains their own Fedora/EPEL releases in a Copr repo and even recommends installing from there \o/

  34. #AlmaLinux's ELevate Begins Handling #EPEL Repositories
ELevate has only worked to date when using official OS repositories. For those using the Extra Packages for #EnterpriseLinux (#EPEL) as is common on #RHEL/#CentOS, ELevate has not been a supported path for upgrading.
ELevate now allows moving between #CentOS7 and #AlmaLinux8 when EPEL is enabled on the system. At the moment upgrading from #EL8 to #EL9 with EPEL enabled isn't yet supported but is being worked on.
