i just looked into @joinloops for the first time. i tried a bunch of videos from loops.video, and none play on my laptop 😔.

the web console reveals that it is indeed a codec issue.

it's worse than i expected, btw. MP4/H.254/H.265 videos are all i can get from many open-sourcey social media sites, including #Mastodon, #PeerTube, #Invidious.

(some may offer their instance-owners to change the default media format, but i have not encountered such an instance)

it sucks. when did everyone start believing that relying patented codecs was okay?

and you *can* just offer both, if you cant live without supporting old apple devices or whatever.

I need another hard drive for my AIOS media player... I just got 1,488 new movies.

Hier könnt Ihr diese Vorträge als Zip-Dateien herunter laden mit jeweils zwei Dateien in den Formaten #MP4 (Video) sowie #PPSX (PowerPoint Show).

Auf Mitgliederversammlungen wird es schnell hektisch, wenn es mit der Technik mal nicht klappt, deshalb die beiden Formate.
Jede Datei lässt sich #direkt aus der Zip-Datei anklicken und läuft sofort los, es braucht nur einen Video-Player auf dem Rechner oder eben PowerPoint. Vorher #Testen ist aber immer gut.

Большинство медиа-библиотек для Go рано или поздно упираются в одну и ту же проблему. У них нет собственного декодера. Вместо этого они полагаются на установленный в системе пакет FFmpeg, shared библиотеки, платформозависимые DLL или внешние исполняемые файлы, которые должны присутствовать на целевой системе. На этапе разработки всё работает. Затем начинается развертывание. И внезапно вы отлаживаете отсутствующие DLL в Windows, несовместимые версии FFmpeg в Linux, различия версий из Homebrew на macOS, образы контейнеров без нужных библиотек или продуктовые серверы, где рядовое обновление пакета неожиданно ломает обработку медиа.

Finally managed, hopefully, to post an #mp4 video of our pond in a tub and Buddhas in the sun.

If so, I used two OS
Puppy Linux and #EasyOS
Had to compress the file in EasyOS but post from Puppy

Use pots a lot in the garden (pottage) and am rather potty so I persevered with this as I normally upload 'rantcasts'.

EasyOS has a rather good multimedia editor. Not as a default program but as a downloadable package.

I have a great #jellyfin library on my #synology #NAS .
I have a stupid #SamsungTV that can browse my #NAS files, but fails to play half of my movies in #mp4 and that forces me to browse folders instead of collections.

If you know a jellyfin client I could easily install on my TV, or a simple way (plug it a #raspberrypi as an interface? With a controller?), I would be extremely grateful 🙏❤😉
