Saturday #fedora recap time!
Just some fun with RHEL10 migrations and note that https://fedoraproject.org/flock/2026/ is just three weeks away now.

So, I've tried to figure out why this the openSUSE Tumbleweed container just fails to even update. I looked for some logs to see if there were any Journald error logs to read that would help, naturally nothing useful to me.
As it merely says, "04:19:30.837 UTC app-org.kde.konsole-6479.scope QObject::disconnect: Unexpected nullptr parameter".
All I can guess is something about the image can't correctly connect to the necessary processes it requires to run on Fedora Kinoite. Despite this openSUSE Tumbleweed container being a nerd-crafted to work with Distrobox.
This boils down to me being a picky bastard and wanting to replicate the similiar Distrobox set-up on my Garuda Linux desktop.
These two programs are working as intended on Fedora Kinoite so this isn't a big deal, and I should not be wasting time chasing a solution that isn't actually required...Eh. I need to let it go. No use wasting a weekend on solving this quirk, as otherwise I won't get to decompress and potentially be creative.
-
I've noticed that Fedora Kinoite has updated quite a bit since the last version...Hmm, it's not too shabby, I'm going to have to see if I can create a Distrobox container of Fedora 44 because I am deeply weird like that on this Laptop.
As the current Distrobox is Fedora 43, as the Opensuse Tumbleweed Distrobox refused to work on the laptop (as software is fun, they said).
Eh, I am sure that I can get that spun up pretty quickly once everything else is configured correctly as I needed to make some small changes before worrying about that.
After that, it is time for Vintage Story.

Trying to get pipewire working on a headless #Fedora server is a thing... that I unfortunately need to do 😔
Oh my word, I don't need any of this crap. If LVA just supported an ALSA device that would be sweet.

Who's using #Fedora #Design suite?
What are your thoughts on it?
What are you doing with it and how long have you been using #GNULinux? It seems I've put off getting the #GPD Pocket 4 #laptop long enough that #USB4 has been superceeded by not just #Oculink but #MCIO. Not to mention that #AMD released the 400 Series of CPUs that are slightly better.
What I'd really like is the #Framework version of it. i.e. slightly thicker with more i/o and upgradability/#repairability. Plus better cooling. I think it'd be a good 2-in-1 tablet for on the go #graphicdesign, #webdesign, #musicProduction, #writing, and the occasional #gaming with or without an eGPU.

So, I guess it's time for everyone to jump off of #Fedora related products, then. I think it would be super great to show that arrogant asshole that reputation is vital in #OpenSource.
So, I'm calling for a #boycott of Fedora and all derivatives until, at a minimum, Jef Spaleta is removed from his position. Setting aside the #AI issue, a project lead who doesn't give a fuck about a project's reputation is unfit to lead.
Of course, if you join me in this, you may be reluctant to go back even after Jef's arrogant ass is fired (I know I will). Which is why *reputation fucking matters, you abject toolbag*.

I've gotten behind here posting daily #fedora stuff. ;(
But to catch up and summarize monday and tuesday and today, I've been doing rhel10 reinstalls along with usual meetings and day to day.
All our smtp incoming machines are moved. A bunch of our non main datacenter virthosts are moved. One of those has been giving me headaches though, as it has no remote console and I want to clean install it. Pull up the followup toot for a list of those. ;)
Also updated our openshift clusters.

#Fedora's #kernel maintainer now maintains a Git branch[1] with fixes for security issues in the #LinuxKernel that are not yet fixed in upstream #Linux because the fixes need more work:
https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/4522
[1] based on mainline, but I guess it often will apply fine for the latest stable series, too

«Microsoft veröffentlicht eigene Server-Linux-Distribution:
Azure Linux 4.0 positioniert Microsoft naturgemäss primär für den Einsatz in der eigenen Cloud. Bald soll aber auch eine Variante erscheinen, die sich als virtuelle Maschine im Windows Subsystem for Linux betreiben lässt.»Erst jetzt gesehen und ein wenig überrascht. Mal sehen was das für eine Distro wird und die bestehenden wirklich konkurenziert.

And repeating the last year post here:
---"But I am not running myself, what can I do?"
1) Think about who can represent your voice in #Fedora
2) *Tell them* that you think that they might be good at representing your voice in Fedora.
This is a critically important step, because often people who are good for these roles are not aware that they are good at them.
3) Learn about people nominated for elections. Talk to them, ask their opinion on various topics.
4) Vote.
