  1. @adamw

    Let's try this again...

I, myself, installed RPM Fusion v43. Period.

During the upgrade to Fedora v44, it jumped to RPM Fusion v45 RAWHIDE. I did not do this, myself. Period.

That is the bug I was commenting.

  2. A few (12) update issues between Fedora v43 to v44 BETA.

Most interesting was that I had RPM Fusion already installed in v43 and oddly it wanted to update to v45 RAWHIDE -- skipping v44 BETA.

  3. Nvidia driver version 580 is now in RPMFusion's Fedora 42 "updates" repo. 580.82.07 is in "updates" and 580.82.09 is in "updates-testing" now.

    #Nvidia #Fedora #RPMFusion

  4. Is Fedora 42 ever going to get Nvidia driver version 580 in RPMFusion's "updates" repo, or is it only going to be on Fedora 43 and "updates-testing" in 42? The last Nvidia update to be in "updates" was 575 at the end of July.

    #Fedora #Nvidia #RPMFusion

  5. Hopefully Nvidia version 580 drivers get into "updates" soon on RPMFusion.

  6. Anyone having issues with #rpmfusion mirrors not working?

  7. Jetzt musste ich doch tatsächlich #h265 nachinstallieren bei #Fedora 🙈

#Rpmfusion ließ sich aber relativ einfach installieren. Und danach die passenden GStreamer Pakete im Softwarecenter.

  8. Upgraded my #Fedora #Kinoite to 42

When the upgrade begins, I was quite delightful that no #rpmfusion packages were broken.

But my joy didn't last long. I now find #Nix doesn't work well on Fedora 42. Hope this issue can be fixed soon

  9. 3/ BTW a related PSA for users of modern #AMD GPUs on #Fedora Linux:

To install va-drivers with support for hardware acceleration of AV1, H264, and H265, enable #RPMFusion free repo if you haven't yet and run this:

    sudo dnf install mesa-va-drivers-freeworld

The days of "sudo dnf swap mesa-va-drivers mesa-va-drivers-freeworld" are over, as the conflict with Fedora's va-driver package is not needed anymore. 😀

  10. PSA for #Fedora users with modern #AMD oder #Intel GPUs:

#RPMFusion since a week or two ships #Mesa #Vulkan driver packages for #Fedora >= 41 with support for patent encumbered video codecs such as H264, and H265, which is missing in Fedora's mesa package.

To switch to those drivers, run:

    sudo dnf swap mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers-freeworld

[Edit: dropped AV1 from the list of codecs this toot mentioned, as it seems to be supported by Fedora's standard vulkan drivers; sorry for the mishap!]

  12. 2/ wants to ship an *add-on* pkg for with vulkan drivers that support hw video acceleration for patent encumbered codecs.

  13. Anyone having an idea how to get #MP4 playback working in #LibreWolf on #rhel10 beta?

I have a strong hunch it's related to ffmpeg ... librewolf complains about NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_FATAL_ERR and Couldn't open avcodec:. I tested #rpmfusion on an AlmaLinux 9 box, and it works fine there with the same kind of packages installed there - but ffmpeg seems to be crux anyhow.

I do have the #oneplay codec pack from #fluendo installed as well, to no avail.

  14. I recently slapped my old #nvidia 1080 into a build and had to figure out setting it up with #fedora and #rpmfusion.

    It's bad.

    1. There are multiple instructions online, none which seem simple and official
    2. It seemed like steps were missing, especially reboot instructions.
    3. Way too many commands that new users don't understand / shouldn't care about.

I know we all don't like nvidia, but we should have a graphical installer.

    #linux #kernel

  15. currently the mesa-dri-drivers are not upgrade, because there is a conflict with mesa-va-drivers-freeworld from #rpmfusion.
As I understand it, this can happen and should be solved, when the rpmfusion packages are updated? #fedora

  16. Sorry for a maybe stupid question, but I try to understand and learn linuxstuff and mitbot just add stuff.

#rpmfusion is a trusted way to install additional packages to #fedora?

  17. FWIW, while I was troubleshooting the "cannot update pipewire-codec-aptx" on my box, the necessary update to #PipeWire 1.01 magically appeared.

In case you had the same error for weeks as I did, try now.

  20. After last @fedora update (Kernel 6.5.x and 6.6.x) proprietary NVIDIA drivers from #rpmfusion are completely not working on NVIDIA Optimus enabled laptop 😔 Trying to load up X11 session with NVIDIA explicitly selected via envycontrol gets @kde slowing down to completely unusable 🥺 Only way to use computer is to fallback to Intel Graphics under Wayland session :linux:

  21. Sometimes I really like #fedora and how well it works with drivers and applications.
But #nvidia is always a pain after big upgrades. Uninstalling packages, disabeling repos etc.
Now I had to disable the rpmfusion-nonfree-nvidia repo, as well as the nvidia-driver repo, because they were in conflict with rpmfusion-nonfree.
Something that have previously worked without any issues just stopped working.

Hopefully this is the last time that I had to fix this issue. It feels like I always have to do a couple of fixes every other big upgrade for my #Plex server

  22. @jotak @ManUtopiK

  23. In case you are (a) on #Fedora 39 and (b) installed mesa-freeworld from #RPMFusion to use GPU accelerated video decoding, any software that uses this feature might act up currently (video players, firefox, ...). A fixed package in on its way and can be found here: koji.rpmfusion.org/koji/buildi

The problem is caused by a LLVM mismatch: Fedora for some reason had build its Mesa with llvm16, while RPM Fusion's buildsys used the latest llvm in the repo (llvm17) (both were build round about the same time)

  24. Would've wanted to upgrade my workstation to #Fedora 39 beta today, but encountering dependency conflicts blocking the upgrade, the only unsolvable one being libhef / libheif-freeworld, as gthumb and GIMP depend on it 🤷️

Is that kind of stuff worth reporting to #RPMfusion, or should we assume they already know and it's mostly a matter of waiting a couple of days for the problem to be resolved?

  25. @itsfoss
    > If you are feeling adventurous and want a good challenge for your experience, you can choose Fedora or Arch Linux.

Please explain why you think #Fedora is more challenging than #Ubuntu? Because you need #rpmfusion for proprietary drivers?

  26. Thanks to the maintainers of #rpmfusion for getting an update for #VirtualBox #akmod package so quickly.

Testing in #Fedora38 on kernel 6.4.10 now 👍

  27. Which #linux packaging format do you prefer?

My choice is usually #rpm but in some cases I prefer #Flatpak because of #flatseal that makes app permissions easy to manage. And many apps are only available as a Flatpak (or the rpm doesn't work well like the Kdenlive rpm from #rpmfusion lol) #appimage is also pretty decent with #appimagelauncher installed.
But I avoid #snap at all cost because #snapstore is proprietary.
