  1. You know one thing I love about #wayland and #swayWM ? Games seem to just work without having a bunch of set to windowed mode hacks in the config.

I used to have gnome installed when I only had i3 years ago because it was such a pain in the ass, especially with lutris.

  2. Getting the base install of #FreeBSD going was pretty easy. Getting #Wayland and #SwayWM up and running has been a little more challenging. Inching closer. Official documentation seems a bit lacking for Wayland and Sway. Finding some blog posts that have helped me get further along.

  3. Using en-dash and em-dash in SwayWM with Compose

    codingotaku.com/notes/en-dash-

While many think that people who use en-dash[1] or em-dash are using LLMs, it’s pretty easy to do with a keyboard, and I use it quite a lot in my blogs.

Most keyboards available now has a compose key, and even if it doesn’t, the operating system can usually handle it by mapping the compose key to another less-used key.

In my SwayWM configuration, I …

  4. I'm a happy #SwayWM user, but gosh ... Reading isaacfreund.com/blog/river-win and looking at codeberg.org/river/wiki/src/br I love what #RiverWM folks have been doing.

    100% agree with this quote:
Wayland currently does not come close to the diversity of X11 window managers. I believe that separating the Wayland compositor and window manager will change this and I see the beginnings of this change with the 15 window managers already written for river!

  5. Found out where the config file for sway is located, that is good! However, I am not confident enough to change the 24-hr time to 12-hr time. As I did find some people who managed this, but they didn't write the change in the standard format found in the sway config file. It left me scratching my head, as I am not used to the style that Sway utilizes at this time.

Resulting in my closing the config file and going back to hunting for a default reference to writing that change...As that will boost my confidence and allow me to complete my desired change.

This is a problem that I can solve, it's just a matter of grinding at it for a bit.

  6. I am currently attempting to use SwayWM, and it is going pretty well...I just need to locate the config file so I can make some changes because the 24-hr clock is driving me up the wall! I did find that win+d opened a program launcher (which sees all the apps I have installed).

So far, I am not having the best of luck...I think that I can succeed at doing something as basic as changing a .config file (he says, deeply uncertain and distractedly).

  7. You know what I love? Seeing -rc1 of a piece of software I love using. #SwayWm in this case.

All of my computing experience for the past decades has been in Linux/#FOSS. It's not *always* smooth, but I at least I never had to worry about new popups/dark patterns trying to get me to accept data collection/sharing or some other infuriating Big Tech move.

Just things getting slightly better with each release. A feature here, a bugfix there. Occasional new bugs (oh well, I know how that happens)

BTW: we have a new team member, who is working on porting nwg-shell components written in Go to Rust, and the results are encouraging. Jason Herald, welcome onboard!

  9. Recently discovered #niri after seeing if I could get away with a minimal #Linux setup running #swaywm. Niri is such a cool workflow!

I've added waybar too, but it's feeling a little but pointless at the moment. What's the point in a bar these days?

  10. Tem sido uma experiência interessante configurar o #swaywm. Minha primeira experiência com WM foi com o #i3wm há muito tempo e usei por pouco tempo.

  11. I accidentally started on an machine, and it ran, that too without the `--unsupported-gpu` flag. Now, when did that happen?

  12. @circfruit @abcdw I use my pinkies for Super key( mod key ) and also for mouse keys and trackpad states. My home rows are Shift, Ctrl, Alt and Super on pinky

  13. I returned to trying the #SwayWM tiling window manager again, and the constraint that all windows must fit where I could see them was refreshing.

More like a "tiny house" that can never get too cluttered because you are forced to deal with the accumulation before it gets too bad.

What I think I really want is something in between: A virtual canvas that is constrained to "only" 2x my desktop, so I still have some "sidecar" windows partially visible, but my ability to add clutter has limits!

  14. This is sway, running as a nested session inside my GNOME session. This is cool, but not the coolest part of this screenshot: Sway is running on my server while GNOME is running on my laptop. And I'm not even at home where my server is, and it still hasn't much lag.

$ waypipe --no-gpu ssh server sway

  15. #swaywm is amazing and I love it but there is too much broken for me to handle.

It's my fault, I have the dread Nvidia GPU.

@CachyOS makes everything else just work with it though, thankfully!

So I've fallen back to my good old @kde .

Hoping I can lean into activities so I can create a similar tool to task and purpose workflow. We'll see!

But while I play, everything just works including Zoom screen share.

I ran my first daily standup with my new setup this AM and everything went off without a hitch!
